Did you know that there are computers in your car? If you did know, do you know what the computers in your car do? Do you know why cars have evolved to include computers in them?
Cars have come a long way since the beginning of the first cars on the road. A lot of the changes that have come in the last 20 years have required a computer or new sensor to relay information back to an existing computer. As new computers and sensors are added to cars, they continue to become more and more complicated.
Some things that are monitored by the sensors and computers in cars today include oxygen sensors for improved emissions, air pressure sensors for safety and fuel mileage improvement, air temperature sensors so that we can know what the temperature is outside (I’ve never been sure why we needed that one), engine temperature sensors to signal problems when they occur, throttle position sensors to control fuel and air flow for emissions and performance and knock sensors to warn of potential serious problems before they get worse.
There are even more sensors on cars, depending on the car. Extra sensors on any given car generally have to do with the extra features of that car or in the development in a newer car versus an older one. When it is all said and done, most sensors are designed to relay information to the car or the dashboard to improve performance, efficiency and alert the driver to potential problems. If there is a problem with your car, an auto mechanic can hook up to the cars computer and get more specific data that will help him to more quickly and accurately diagnose the problem.
All computers for cars are designed and installed for a specific purpose. If you combine all of the computers and their purposes, they can be reduced to some general categories. Those general categories are: comfort, handling, emissions and performance.
There are 2 main computers on every newer car. The engine control module (ECM) controls everything pertaining to the performance and emissions of the engine. The power control module (PCM) controls everything relating to the handling of the car.
The engine control module (ECM) is a very common computer. This computer came about because of push for improved emissions of vehicles for the sake of the environment. Fuel mileage was a side benefit to consumers but also came about under the same premise of environment. The driver of the car may understand that a computer is at work as they drive, but they do not have to think about it ever.
Car computers work in the background creating a better ride and a more efficient car, while alerting you to the information it has gathered only if it determines that there is a potential problem that needs attention. Some will look at car computers as just one more thing that potentially will need to be fixed on a car. However, when all benefits and costs are considered, their arguments are short handed.
Jordan Mcpelt is a car enthusiast. He noted that most of us do not consider the car computers that control our cars today. The engine control module is perhaps the biggest development in our cars as a result of the influence of special interest groups.

With our domestic auto industries struggling, and in some cases tanking completely, it is sometimes easy to become confused as to what sort of car to buy. With the government backing the warranties of some of America’s great automakers, you may feel more secure, but that is not the only reason why you should keep your sights on cars made in the U.S.
The quality of American vehicles has definitely increased in recent years. In fact, many major consumer reports reflect that the major American automakers have met their Japanese and European competition head-on.
Studies that rank dependability have shown that certain American models have now outstripped popular Japanese mid-size vehicles. That is not to mention that fuel economy is now almost equal among similar models.
In order to increase customer confidence, several American companies have tacked on payment protection plans, which are generally included in the cost of the vehicle–no extra charge. So in the event you lose your income, your payments will actually made for several months (though how many depends on the company). For one American company, this plan covers up to a full year.
The inspiration for doing this actually comes from a well-known Korean automaker, but they only offer three months. That really is no competition in terms of security for the American people.
If you want a car you can really be proud of in terms of style, buy American! America still boasts the original and the authentic muscle car, but with the greater emphasis on fuel economy, you can find a model that is reliable, practical, and totally studly.
American automotive manufacturers are currently offering all kinds of great discounts and financing options in order to get back out of the slump they’re all experiencing today.
What’s more, supporting their efforts is highly patriotic. These are tough times for all of us, and even if you oppose government bailouts for the major American automakers, you can still support American jobs as well as American technology by buying here in the States.
Just the same way that someone who is passionate about the environment might buy a hybrid, even if they aren’t perfected yet, you might consider buying American just to back the efforts of these automakers.
There are great things to come. I know the present looks bleak, but if we have a little faith in our own innovation, the future will be much brighter. I encourage you to keep doing research to carefully weigh your options. Buying any sort of car is a large investment–make it wisely.

We all drive every day (at least most of us if we’re honest about it), but we rarely pay attention to the gauges in our car. Sure, we all look at the speedometer when we see a policeman in an attempt to not get pulled over, but sometimes even that is not enough.
There is a very good reason we should pay more attention to some of the other gauges in our cars. The reason, very simply, is to take care of our car. Car gauges are there to let us know the condition of several aspects of our car as we drive down the road. These gauges can be the warning we need to prevent major parts of our cars from breaking.
That being said, most of us do not have much more in the way of “gauges”than a speedometer and gas gauge, which are the only ones most of us pay any attention to. Today’s cars typically have warning lights rather than gauges. When auto makers discovered that we were not paying attention to all of the gauges, they decided to do something that would get our attention. Warning lights replaced the traditional gauges and have been our warning when there was a problem, rather than gauges with a dial and numbers.
If by chance you have a car that still has gauges, you should learn what they are for and pay attention. The coolant temperature gauge is a gauge that tells you just that, the temperature of the coolant. It is there to tell you when things are heating up. In the summertime, cars overheating are a particular problem. The average temperature of the coolant in a car running down the road is 200-210 degrees Fahrenheit. When the coolant starts to get hotter than that, you should pay close attention. If the temperature continues to climb and does not cool down as you speed up, then stop the vehicle and let it cool down. If you do not, you will be stranded on the side of the road calling for a tow truck
The oil pressure gauge is another gauge found in dash of a car. The oil gauge reads the pressure of the oil through the engine. This is good to know; because a lack of oil pressure usually means something serious is wrong and large problems are around the corner if you do not get it checked very soon. The loss of oil pressure, whatever the cause, can mean that the engine is not being lubricated like it needs to be. If you do not stop the car and turn it off, you are asking for big trouble.
A tachometer is the Revolutions per minute that the crank of the engine is turning. It is important to know that your car’s engine is not turning too fast, because the higher the RPM’s, the more likely trouble will find you. The faster the internal engine parts turn, the more heat they generate and the tougher it is for them to be lubricated enough. If they do not get lubricated enough, that can lead to a broken engine. 2000-3000 RPM’s is normal while driving down the road, and no more than 5000-6000 RPM’s as you move through the gears to get up to speed. For some idea of comparison, a NASCAR race car engine turns around 8000-9000 RPM’s when at full speed and Indy cars, turn between 12,000-13,000 RPM’s. Your street car is not built for that and the race teams tear down the engine after every race and replace parts. You do not have that luxury.
The oil temperature gauge is less common, even in cars that have lots of gauges. However, if you have one it is good to understand it. While oil pressure and water temperature are more important, oil temperature can also signal a potential problem. When the oil gets too hot in the engine, it breaks down and loses its ability to lubricate properly. The lubrication in the engine is crucial to the internal, moving parts. When those parts do not have sufficient lubrication, they heat up beyond the capacity of the part and break, destroying the engine. Most cars that have gauges still do not have an oil temperature gauge, but if they do pay attention to it.
If your car has gauges, you should learn what they each mean and why that is important to you. Pay attention to them to prolong the life of your car. However, most cars today have warning lights in place of gauges. It has been my experience that warning lights in your cars instrument panel usually comes on too late. If you have warning lights instead of gauges in your cart, understand that when a light comes on in your dash, you are already well into a problem and you should park the car very soon and have it looked at by your mechanic.
Jordan Mcpelt is a professional author who also has a passion for cars. His biggest pet peeve with new cars is the lack of real car gauges in the instrument panel.

Well look no more! One of the best things you can do is to have a look online at the various companies that offer Heathrow taxis. Hardly anyone uses a phone book nowadays so if you want information, a product or in this case; a service, you gotta look online! One of the nice things about looking online is that you can find various companies and you can find them in just a few minutes - without paging through a very large paged directory. If you need a taxi - these companies are completely there for you.
It doesn’t matter if you need to run down the street, go to a doctors appointment or even need a Heathrow airport taxi - these guys are here with a helping hand. If you find a site you might want to deal with, then I would suggest looking for their “quote” section which is usually an inquiry type section. This will allow you to tell them why you need them, what you need them for and how you want them to get back to you. Then, they will either email or call you with the information you will need such as if they are available, when you should be ready, how much it’s going to cost on average, etc.
It’s also important to make sure the company is a professional business with nice and reliable cars. I have taken a lot of taxis in my time. Some were awesome. Clean cars, nice drive, safe driver. Others? Not so much. So it’s good to go with a company that has a proven track record of being who you want them to be - safe, reliable, quality, cheap! Please also make sure that the company offers some sort of a guarantee about the drivers. For example, one site I found online gave this pitch:
Our Drivers - Peace of mind: All of our taxi drivers are qualified with Hackney Carriage License. Well dressed with clean modern taxis, they all have excellent local knowledge and have been police checked.
This is what you want! You also want to check in and make sure that they have “room” for your needs. For instance, if you have a business meeting of some sort and you need a taxi to Heathrow for 10 people then chances are you are going to need a bigger taxi than a regular one, such as a 16 seater mini bus, or a Executive Heathrow Taxi Cars. Remember, these people are doing a service to you. So you want to make sure they aren’t inconveniencing you. Find the right company, with the right service options. And remember to tip your drivers!

Have you been riding down the road only to have this awful black smoke coming out of your car? Your car might be trying to tell you what is wrong by the color of the smoke that is coming from it. If your car is starting to burn some oil, at first this will only give you that burning smell and maybe a little gray smoke. As it starts to get worse, the smell will become stronger and the smoke will become darker. Then you might have some wires burning. This will make your eyes burn and water, even maybe make you cough.
Most of the time car smoke will be coming out of the exhaust pipe. Some of it you might be able to fix by yourself like the spark plugs, the wires to the plugs, even the oil and air filters. These most of you can do yourself. But then again if you do not know anything about a car engine, it would be best to take it to a professional mechanic. You could really do some damage if you try. There are also other colors of smoke when it comes to that engine of yours. Even if you do not see any signs of smoke, never run this car in your garage as these fumes are there and they are deadly.
You could have white smoke. This is not really good when it comes to your car as there could be a problem with your coolant. It will mean that it is burning this coolant and when this happens you can burn up your motor. If this goes too long you could end up with a damaged head gasket, the head might be warped or even cracked. There happens to be a gasket on this with a lot of cars and it may have become torn or damaged. This can be fixed rather cheaply, but if it is cracked it will run into some money to fix.
Then you have the blue smoke and this is problems with the more important parts of your car. This could be the cylinders, pistons or even the valves. If this happens you would probably be better off to either put this car to pasture or simply put in a whole new motor. It would not be a good idea to try to fix only a few parts as this sometimes only puts more pressure on the old parts causing them to break.

Mini has changed over the years; however the foundation of this very small and intelligent car is still the same.
Be it an old mini from the 1950’s or the new mini of today people cannot help falling for this magnificent car.
They started their revolutionary journey with a brand new design in the 1950’s and have been surprising people with their striking style and innovation ever since.
Minis new style is much more modern and exciting than its older brother. What with the playful contrast roof and angular body, these changes made Minis future bigas apposed to mini.
A Mini is the dream car for every young driver. Whatever your normal taste in cars, there is sure to be a soft spot in every driver’s heart for a Mini. 17 year old boys want the cliche blue Mini with go faster stripes, while the 17 year old girls tend to go for the Union Jack roof design. A new Mini for your 17th birthday is the oversized stocking filler that every teenager dreams about.
A small car with a big personality and even bigger pulling power.
A Mini will never go out of fashion. Whatever the colour or model, you can guarantee that investing in a new Mini will be the greatest investment of your life. Why buy cheaper, unreliable cars that will have to be replaced every few years, when you can buy a Mini that will be with you for life.
Buy Mini hatches, convertibles and clubmans in a huge array of colours and of course the signature Mini add-ons that will make every Mini stand out from the crowd. Why not get a cream hatch with black go faster stripes, or a shiny yellow convertible. The choices are infinite!
Cruising down the motorway in your new Mini, the stereo on, singing to your favourite tunes. The only way to have that much fun is of course in a Mini.
Many people associate Mini with the Italian Job. Fast paced car chases in little cars - genius! The fascination of being able to have fun and be free at the same time as being in a normal everyday car. The red, white and blue Minis being the cliche colours to have; just like having a red Ferrari or a yellow Lamborghini.
So, the facts are here, it’s up to you to decide. Why fade in and out of fashion? When you can have a new Mini.

If you are a smoker or have one that rides in your car you might notice damage. When you get out of your car and get back in later, you can still smell the smoke. This smoke is very hard to remove because the tar residue sticks to everything. You might try air fresheners that you can buy almost everywhere, but they will not get rid of that smell of smoke. With some of them you might end up with this awful sick smell or sweet smell and still have the smell of this smoke with it. There are ways to remove this smell with out spending a lot of money on useless air fresheners.
You might try putting a dryer sheet under the seats of this car. Then roll up the windows and turn the heat on high. You will only need to do this for about 20 minutes. Then shut off your car and let it sit for another 10 minutes. The best time you want to do this is at night when you are done using it for the day as you will want it to sit overnight. By morning the dryer sheets will have removed all of the smells of the smoke, but even this is only temporary. You could also do this during the day when the car is sitting with the windows rolled up. With both methods make sure that you are not in the car. This second method will only take a couple of hours.
The only real way to rid your vehicle of the smell of cigarettes is to clean everything inside it thoroughly with a deodorizing cleaner. You will need a carpet shampooer and if you can not clean the headliner in the car without damaging it, you might even have to have it replaced. The headliner is usually damaged the most by cigarette smoke because the smoke rises. You could consider having you vehicle cleaned by professionals. They will clean it up from front to back and make this whole car look and smell almost like new. After you have this done, it is better to not smoke in it anymore or all of that cleaning will have been for nothing.
Once you stop smoking in your vehicle yourself and do not allow others to smoke inside of it either, you might find that you can cut down your smoking significantly because most cigarette smokers do a lot of smoking while they are driving their vehicle. If you can curb you habit while you are driving, you might find that you are able to apply this same no smoking rule to other places and times in your life like in your home or not smoking around others. This takes away a lot of the opportunities where you can smoke and might actually help you to quit. Just think, it might have all started just because you wanted a cleaner smelling car.

Honda has been manufacturing anything ‘motorist’ since 1986. In 2001 they took over Nissan to become Japan’s second largest automobile manufacturer.
As well as cars, they are the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer, as well as the world’s largest manufacturer of internal combustion engines.
In 1986, they launched a dedicated luxury car brand in North America - Acura. The brand primarily competes with Buick, Lexus and Infiniti among others in the luxury vehicle segment.
Honda is now world renowned for reliability and customer satisfaction. Associated with stylish saloons and comfortable SUVs all at an affordable price. And with one of the widest ranges of vehicles in the UK, they are surely tried and tested products for consumers to get their teeth into.
You are sure to be pleased with your car if you buy a Honda, as their attention to detail is certainly reputable. And of course you will have the peace of mind that your car isn’t going to break down whenever you go on a long drive.
They definitely have the reliability factor.
At the bottom of the range of new models is the Jazz, starting at around 10,400 pounds; the higher end going to the Accord Tourer at around 21,220 pounds.
The company aren’t just renowned for new cars, but a large range of pre-owned vehicles are available for a fraction of the price. Be it a Civic Hybrid or a CR-V, the range of used cars available is almost as extensive as the newer versions.
Buying an approved used Honda isn’t as daunting as the used car process usually is. Not only is the company’s legendary reliability thrown into the package, but you can also ensure that the car will be readied for sale by certified technicians and supported by a full guarantee. Excellent customer service can also be expected because of their extensive dealer network.
With a used model, you also get: complimentary 7-day drive-away insurance, a range of financial solutions, 12-month happiness guarantee, rigorous checking and preparation, assured vehicle history, mileage certification and a 30-day exchange policy.
In the pre-owned sector, a Jazz starts at the noticeably cheaper price of 6,975 pounds and the Accord Tourer at 19,475 pounds. So, whether you want the brand new version, or the slightly cheaper option, there is always an option for you.
Either a new or used car has the reliability, the comfort and of course the style that you need.
Why not go for the tried and tested option? You won’t be disappointed.

The task of installing a siren with emergency lights in a car is not as hard as you might think and once you’ve got all the equipment up and working you’ll most likely agree. Here’s what you’ll need: A siren with or without emergency lights, proper gauge wire, heavy duty switch to activate the siren, relay switch, drilling machine, and some oil (optional).
First, if you are doing an exterior installation, make absolutely sure that you have a firm mounting surface. These units are very heavy and require a solid mounting area. You might have to reinforce the underside of the roof under the headliner to adequately support the weight. If it is a front fender install, the same holds true. Some light installs have the advantage of having structurally heavier metal surfaces to mount the siren on. Either way, make quite sure that the unit is securely bolted to the mounting surface or it absolutely will loosen from vehicle shaking and vibration, as well as its own vibration from being used. If the mounting surface is not solid enough, the metal used to mount the siren on will fatigue from stress.
Another serious consideration is using the proper gauge wire and heavy duty switch to activate the siren. The wiring must be heavy enough to handle the load or you risk damaging the siren or worse, an electrical fire. Always fuse any electrical accessories you install to help prevent this risk. It would be wise to use a relay to activate the siren.
There’s a bit of metallurgy and chemistry involved here that isn’t necessary to get into. Bolts are made with hard, dense metals, which get harder as the rating grade of the bolt gets better, and are notoriously difficult to drill, and often even to cut. More often than we would like, they have to be drilled out as penetrating oil can be ineffective. If you do not have a high speed corded drill or drill press and sharp high strength metal bits of the correct size, do not attempt to do this. You will end up ruining the bits you have without accomplishing your task, at the very least, especially if you use lesser grade bits. The driver mounting holes will have to be re-tapped with new threading to accept new mounting bolts after the old ones are drilled out, if you are even successful at doing this. This means that you have to have a tap and die set available also.
If you try using penetrating oil, make sure you allow for sufficient time for the oil to creep into the threading before attempting removal. This is a common mistake when using oils. Applying heat carefully, and I emphasize carefully, from a torch can help with removal of the offending bolts, and is a common mechanic practice when repairing under a car to break loose corroded fasteners from components, but be very cautious near rubber, paper, plastic or cast metal parts with high heat.
They can be easily and permanently damaged with less heat than you might expect. A combination of heat and oil should be done with extreme caution, as oils are flammable. You should heat the unit then apply the oil as it starts to cool. Use a liberal amount of oil, as the hot surface will make it evaporate.
It is also a good idea when installing these parts to use an anti seize metal coating on all fasteners to keep this from happening on new components or reoccurring on reconditioned ones. Oils and other lubricants will not work as well or last as long. Keep this coating in mind for any fasteners you have to deal with especially ones that are subjected to direct weather and moisture. Every place that sells auto chemicals sells this valuable coating.
In short, it might be a bit time consuming if you mess up somewhere, but with a little bit of precaution and proper understanding of the steps to be followed, you can install it within no time.
