Affiliate Marketing - How Really Competitive It Is?

Thursday 23 July 2009 @ 2:19 pm

Every profitable niche market on the Internet is highly competitive. If it isn’t competitive then there can’t possibly be much of a customer base to sell to. That is just the nature of all Internet marketing and in every profitable niche.

Affiliate marketing is a lot like a football game just without the bruises and sore muscles. An affiliate marketer must design offensive plays and defensive plays that will put him in a position to win the affiliate wars.

When you watch a football game on TV, you can easily see how games are won or lost in the battle that takes place on the line of scrimmage. Offensive plays are designed to protect the quarterback and/or to open up holes in the defense so that yardage can be gained.

Defensive plays are designed to sack the quarterback or close holes that would allow yardage to be gained. Quarterbacks and coaches get the credit for wins and blame for losses but the battle is won or lost in the trenches.

Maybe you do have a long and impressive list of paid customers. That’s great! It means you have already won several of the affiliate marketing contests and come out on top. The problem is there are always those up and coming marketers who want your customers on their lists.

Your list and your competitor’s lists may well contain many of the same names and email addresses. Just having a list will not be enough to assure you of a victory when selling an affiliate product. You have to design some offensive plays that will assure that your customers buy from you and not from your competitors.

So, you ask, what is it that I can do that will assure that my customers will buy from me? The answer is just one word… unique!

You have to be unique. You have to offer something that sets you completely apart from your competitors. You have to make your offer for a product or service for which you are an affiliate more attractive to buy from you than it is to buy from you competitors.

If you simply send out a marketing email advertising a product or service that you are an affiliate marketer for, you need to remember that there are dozens or maybe even hundreds of other marketers who are sending out marketing email advertising the exact same product or service and many of them are sending them to the same people that you are. You have to do something to make sure that your customers buy from you…you have to be unique.

There are several ways to achieve uniqueness. One way is to have established yourself as an expert in the field for which the product or service is being sold. You have to have become not only visible but credible, as well. This visibility and credibility is not easily achieved. It takes a lot of hard work, time and effort.

Visibility and credibility are established by taking such measures as writing and marketing articles and E-Books, posting to blogs and forums, appearing as an expert on teleseminars and webinars, etc. The fact is that when people know you and trust you, they buy from you. They will buy from you even is your competitors are offering a better deal or more incentives.

People do not like to buy from strangers. The Internet is a big impersonal and even frightening place to many consumers. They want to feel like they know and trust the people that they buy products and services from. The time, effort and energy that you put into becoming visible and credible is the best time, effort and energy investment that you will ever make. Reputation is everything in the world of Internet marketing. Credibility makes you unique.

I look forward to football season every fall the long shadows the crispness in the air the colors. Football like fall seem to end to early alway leaving you wanting more.

Internet Marketing Success - How To Succeed By Copying The Best

Thursday 23 July 2009 @ 10:05 am

There are a lot of ways to make money online from internet marketing and sometimes that’s what makes it so difficult for new online entrepreneurs to get started. In the beginning there is a lot to learn, particularly if you’re unfamiliar with the internet and while this is daunting in and of itself, it can be even more frustrating to know that a lot of decisions lie ahead. Are you going to become an affiliate marketer? an Adsense guru? or are you going to apply your online skills to working with offline businesses?

Knowing which way to go to try to make money online isn’t an exact science. In fact, you could succeed with any number of marketing methods. But how do you know which one is right for you? I recommend simply following someone who you admire and whose marketing business has already generated interest for you.

To start to copy a successful internet marketer it helps to have an insight into their business model and marketing methods. This knowledge can be gained in a number of ways. Most marketers have a blog that they use to communicate with their market and customers. This is an excellent free place to start. Otherwise you might join their newsletter or purchase their products.

Perhaps the ultimate way to really learn the ins and outs of an online entrepreneur’s business is to learn from them through a mentoring or coaching program. These programs are invaluable to new internet marketers in particular because they give you not only the opportunity to learn the ways, but to get the know the person behind the method as well. These programs aren’t cheap, but if you have the money and the incentive to get off on the best foot, then there is no substitute.

By sticking with one example and learning everything they do to succeed in their online business you are also helping yourself to drown out all of the other distractions and competing opportunities. I know from my own experience as a new affiliate marketing hopeful that I struggled with information overload and distraction to such an extent that I ended up spending thousands of dollars in less than a year and not making a dollar in profit. I thought I was investing wisely at the time, and I’ve since recovered my costs (thankfully) but it was only when I decided to focus that I began to make it.

Internet marketing is a fiercely competitive industry and promises of fast riches and overnight success are merely marketing puffery. You have to learn to see past this and understand the business operations that are going on behind the scenes before you are going to be able to become confident that you can be a success. This is why getting to know a guru can be invaluable to you. You’ll quickly learn that these successful online entrepreneurs have solid systems in place that they work like engineers to make the money that they make.

There is no magic formula to success and making money online with an internet business, but in my opinion focussing on people and businesses that are already successful is the closest thing to a magic wand that you can get. If it worked for them then there’s a good chance that the same formula will work for you too.

Build Your List With Private Label Rights PLR Content

Monday 20 July 2009 @ 11:58 am

The quality of PLR varies as does the price. Ask to see a writing sample before you purchase. Most PLR does not come with a money back guarantee from individual writers simply because there is no way for the writer to control the content after it’s been downloaded. Once you’ve downloaded the material the writer may not have any idea if you’ve used it or not. That’s why it’s important to check the quality before you buy.

Most PLR membership sites will refund your money if you’re not satisfied.

Some buyers of PLR prefer a limited distribution of the content. The same material will only be sold to say, 50 people. What’s more important is what those people can do with the content. If they have the master resale rights and each of them sells it to 50 people, and those 50 sell it to 50 people, any exclusivity becomes irrelevant.

What’s also important is how often the PLR content has been used. If you’re buying a package of 3000 articles for $10, the odds are those articles are all over the Internet, are tired, and pretty much worn out.

Build Your List with PLR
There are two cliches in Internet Marketing, and both happen to be true. “The money is in the list,” and “Content is king”. Building a list can be accomplished in several ways. One of the most effective is offering a free report in exchange for the visitor’s name and email address. Since the visitors volunteered their contact information, any email you send them is considered solicited, or requested. It’s less likely you will be accused of sending SPAM.

Single opt-in means that the person has requested once to be on your list. They provide their email once. Double opt-in means that the person has opted in, requested, to receive email from you, once at your site, and again when they respond positively to a message from you to confirm their request. Confirmation is the second time they opt-in.

There is the possibility that the person won’t confirm their request the second time, so you may lose a few subscribers. However that risk is offset by the fact that since the visitor confirmed their request twice it’s less likely any email from you will be considered SPAM.

There are companies who provide double opt-in email distribution services through autoresponders. Aweber is one of those companies and is the company we use and recommend. There is no limit on the number of lists you can develop, messages you can send, or number of people on your list.

An autoresponder is software that automatically responds to any email sent to it with a message. The message is written by the person who owns the autoresponder email address or who hires the autoresponder company.

It’s possible to set up a series of emails that will automatically be sent over a prescribed length of time. That’s called an autoresponder series. The series of emails you send subscribers, your list members, should be informative and interesting. Good content is the key to keep your list members from unsubscribing. That’s where quality PLR comes in. If you purchase a pack of articles you could use each article as part of the series of autoresponders.

Continue to provide your list members with quality content and they’ll be more responsive to any of your offers.

How Web Accessibility Will Affect Your eCommerce Business

Thursday 16 July 2009 @ 5:25 pm

There is a strong movement from disability advocates to adapt the existing Americans with Disabilities Act Regulation for Title III to ecommerce in the United States and around the world.

Many countries abroad have some form of web accessibility law already, though these laws and recommendations vary greatly from one country to the next. You need to review web accessibility laws in the specific locations where you ship your products.

In 2008 the U.S. Target Corporation settled a lawsuit with the National Federation of the Blind. The Federation claimed Target’s website was inaccessible to individuals who are disabled. The case resulted in damages being paid but did not set any case precedent. Target did revise their website. Disability advocates will continue to sue web-based businesses that have inaccessible websites to establish an accessibility ruling precedent. Eventually accessibility regulations will become law on the World Wide Web.

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has made an attempt at revising web accessibility guidelines. Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 is now the official recommendation for web accessibility for the disabled. These new set of guidelines replace the WCAG 1.0 W3C recommendations of 1999.

There are twelve guidelines designed around four fundamental categories:

Perceivable:

- Provide text alternatives for non-text content.

- Provide captions and alternatives for audio and
video content.

- Make content adaptable; and make it available to assistive technologies.

- Use sufficient contrast to make things easy to see and hear.

Operable:

- Make all functionality keyboard-accessible.

- Give users enough time to read and use content.

- Do not use content that causes seizures.

- Help users navigate and find content.

Understandable:

- Make text readable and understandable.

- Make content appear and operate in predictable ways.

- Help users avoid and correct mistakes.

Robust:

- Maximize compatibility with current and future technologies.

Each individual who reads the twelve guidelines could have a different interpretation of the meanings. Where are the actual measurements for text sizes and the specifications for the color contrast ratio?

There are over three hundred pages of technical documents accompanying the above four topics. The technical section has a techniques list that provides hundreds of common failures that can occur. The entire guidelines are based on suggestions and possibilities to solve web design inaccessibility. Unfortunately, the guidelines are not particularly user-friendly; the techniques list of the Accessibility Guidelines is buried in computer jargon for expert web page designers.

When website accessibility laws come into effect there will be a time frame for compliance. Just like the existing ADA laws there is likely to be some allowances and made as well as grandfathering of some existing issues.

Remember, the point of disability protection laws is to establish access for individuals with disabilities to places of business, without imposing an undue burden on the business.

As an ecommerce business you should definitely review the new Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. Research and review the accessibility laws in the countries where you ship products.

There is a Web Accessibility Quick Tips section on the World Wide Consortium’s website. A key is to be sure your website is designed to be compatible for use with high-tech devices and adaptors that enhance computer functions for disabled individuals. Beyond that, choose adaptations that make sense with your web design and product. Keep in mind also that each accommodation you make is one more way to attract all types of customers.

Enhance Your Home Business Success With Web 2.0

Monday 13 July 2009 @ 1:29 pm

In today’s internet savvy generation, Web 2.0 is of great importance since on it may depend the success of your home based business. It is essential that you understand how Web 2.0 affects your business and use that knowledge to further your business prospects.

To be very precise, Web 2.0 refers to the social media environment. It is all about building human bridges by connecting with people and using those connections to form relationships. This is a space which is devoted less to selling and more to sharing data and expertise.

You may not have known how the social media can affect your business. But you probably have heard of it and actually have accessed social media websites. Youtube, Facebook, Twitter are among the many Web 2.0 sites. Each of these uses ingenious ways to build a base of potential customers for you.

What you have to be clear about right at the beginning is that people don’t visit social media sites to be sold things to. You cannot directly market your services or merchandise at these sites. Now, you may very pertinently ask that how will your business be helped if you cannot sell to your connections in these sites. The kind of work you will do at these sites will build up a reputation which will help your business. If you can prove to be an expert in your field and thereby win the trust of your network people, people will surely gravitate to your business website. By the time this happens they will be more willing to read your business emails or news and may even want to buy your product.

Begin with providing as much useful information as possible, whether it be in blogposts or articles. Let people realize that you are an expert in your field. Otherwise they won’t trust you enough to buy your products.

Each blogpost, article, HubPage, Squidoo lens will have a link that will lead your readers to your business site. Impressed readers will use that link to go to your page once they want to know about you and your product.

But remember, this road will require patience. Do not expect overnight returns. This process of wooing customers takes time. If you push for immediate results, it may actually hamper your business prospects and cause further delay. Just focus on creating and fostering connections.

So this is a great way to boost your business prospects. The more connections you have, potentially the more customers you will have. The importance of a network of connections and your reputation as an expert cannot be overemphasized. It will eventually boil down to leading them to your business website.

What A Freelance Team Brings To A Project

Wednesday 8 July 2009 @ 10:49 am

It’s not at all uncommon for businesses large and small to need some outside assistance from time to time. Consultants have long existed, making themselves available to travel anywhere on nearly a moments notice to take on jobs for others.

But, what happens when the budget is a little smaller and the need is a little greater than one person can handle? Is it feasible to assemble a team of experts without having to pay for plane tickets, lodging, or other related expenses?
Absolutely!

When a team of virtual freelancers is assembled, a company can save a lot of money and still receive the assistance needed. The benefits of working with freelancers through the Internet, rather than bringing them in, can add up fast. Even in a team setting where multiple freelancers will need to work on a common project and a common goal, these benefits can result:

Cost savings
Freelancers can have rather varied prices based on their specialty, experience, and the task at hand. Still, it is often much more cost-effective to work with a virtual team than it is to even bring in a single consultant. This is due not only to the fact that airfare, lodging, and meals won’t go into the pricing, but also due to the competitive process recommended for hiring Internet-based workers.
Gaining a global perspective
Freelancers that work over the Internet represent just about every country in the world. This means that your business can benefit from a global or international perspective on its project. Since many businesses now compete in the global marketplace, this can be a very important bonus of working with a virtual team versus other consultants.

Professionalism
While it’s true that resumes can vary among freelancers, many bring a great deal of experience and professionalism to projects. Some even boast of having reached the pinnacle of their fields before they chose to strike out on their own. When a team is carefully selected, members will bring knowledge and professionalism to the endeavor.

Collaboration
When a virtual team is overseen correctly, a project will not lose out on the benefits of collaboration. Tools for online meetings can be used to help bring creativity and new ideas to an undertaking. Video and text-based chats, for example, can help team members literally bounce ideas off of each other. The end result can be a course of action and a plan for a project that is even better than what was initially presented to the team.

Expediency
If the project is pressing and the deadline is tight, Internet-based freelancers are often better poised to deliver. A team of freelancers can literally do in days a project that could take a single person months to achieve.

When there’s a need to gain outside assistance on a project, companies do have more choices than many realize. Assembling a team of virtual freelancers can cost less than other options without dragging down the quality of the final product. In many cases, this type of working relationship can result in a better outcome than what was initially anticipated.

Make Easy Money on eBay - 6 Ways to Make Profits on eBay

Tuesday 7 July 2009 @ 9:26 pm

Among the most common things you can do to make money online is advertising and selling your products. If you find advertising time consuming, you may want to choose the other option. If you have some things that you have never used for a long time, or things you do not anymore need, then you have something to sell, and you can always make easy money on eBay.

To help you get started, here are some tips on how to make easy money on eBay.

1. Choose a profitable item to sell. In order to make easy money on eBay, find an item to sell that is unique, marketable and something that people want to have. It could be something that can be found only in your place, a vintage stuff or some collectibles. Also try to find products that are easy to handle and ship and avoid selling things that the buyer would want to personally see or touch. You can also find products that fit the season. Products suitable for gift items are always in demand during the holiday season - so take advantage of proper timing.

2.. Do your research. From putting up a big business to selling items on eBay, it is important to do your homework - and that is research. Research the prices similar to your products as well as the categories where your product should be classified. Selling your product at the wrong category would be the easiest way not to get a bid. Selling it at a very high price than the competitors is not also a wise move.

3. Start with what you have. To start, sell something from your basement or anything you do not anymore need, and find something that is not expensive. This way, you will be able to handle any risks involved especially with the cost. When you get used to the system and be able to make your strategies, you can then widen your scope by finding other sources of products to sell - from yard sales, discount stores and other sources

4. Find something that will not cost you a lot on shipping. Consider the weight and size of your items. To avoid risks, do away with fragile and bulky items.

5. Provide high quality pictures. Pictures are essential when selling online. It would help a lot if you have a good quality picture of the product and present it in a way that the quality and condition can be clearly seen. Although you will be providing good pictures, do not also forget to complement it with a catchy title.

6. Be honest. Do not engage in false advertising or exaggeration of your product description and be clear with the shipping cost. Do give out clear and detailed description of the product. One of the important things to make easy money on eBay is to build trust. If you earn that rating of being a reliable seller, you will never find it difficult to sell on eBay again.

If you are determined to sell online and make easy money on eBay, always research and find good tips to help you with your online selling.

How Suppliers Are Filtering Wholesale Buyers To Control Online Sales

Thursday 2 July 2009 @ 5:33 pm

In a recent eBay Online Business Index survey, many online retailers reported experiencing a growing variety of problems in their relationships with suppliers, often aimed at reducing online sales.

Prohibition on discounts

Forty-five percent of respondents said that suppliers tell them what to charge and prohibit discounting beyond a minimum set by the supplier. Many suppliers are engaging in this behavior to protect their bricks and mortar customers from being undercut by online retailers. Retailers who maintain a physical presence and stocked shelves have much higher costs than online stores and need the extra margin to cover those costs. But online retailers argue that eliminating the ability to compete on price takes away a fundamental value associated with online sales.

This conflict has not remained between retailer and wholesaler either. The U.S. Supreme Court rendered a decision in 2007 in the Leegin Creative Leather Products Inc. vs. PSKS Inc. case that gave greater legal protection to minimum pricing policies. But, the Court stated that the issue should be decided on a case by case basis. At the same time, a number of U.S. states have threatened to pursue suppliers and online retailers who engage what they refer to as price fixing and collusion. Similar cases are sprouting in Europe.

Complicated Display Criteria and Other Red tape

Thirty-two percent of respondents said they are frequently faced with such complicated display criteria that it is hard to comply. The report cited examples such as dictated the number of pixels for photos of products. Forty-two percent said that there were many logistical roadblocks to selling products from some manufacturers such as requiring dedicated websites.

Supply Problems

Thirty-nine percent of respondents said that they had experienced supply problems that they strongly felt were connected to their status as online sellers. It has been particularly suspicious when a bricks and mortar seller opens an online channel for product sales and suddenly finds that the product is no longer available to him.

Shipping Restrictions

Twenty-four percent of retailers have been prohibited from selling goods to overseas customers by suppliers.

These and other restrictions really do place severe hardships on online retailers because so much of their product supply comes from wholesalers (fifty-four percent) and direct from manufacturers (forty percent).

Solutions

Although strong solutions to this problem are few and far between, there are some steps an online retailer can take to protect his business.

Search out suppliers whose first priority sales are to the online community.

Many new suppliers have emerged as the economy has gone global. These suppliers may not necessarily have the same connections to the bricks and mortar retailers. It makes sense to develop relationships with suppliers who value your business and either make a switch or split ordering so you have a backup in case of problems. (It makes sense in any case to have at least two suppliers for major products.)

Deliver customer discounts in other ways

If you cannot directly discount the price of a product, you can try a buy two, get one free promotion or free shipping, paid for by those higher prices you are forced to accept.

This dilemma does not have an easy solution anywhere in sight, especially now that the courts are becoming involved.
