Finally Science Confirms the Secret Key to Weight Loss

Thursday 6 August 2009 @ 6:52 pm

This is one of the most important posts I have written on health so I want you to carefully read this.

My site has been around for over 10 years and from day one I have been extolling the importance of insulin in nearly all chronic degenerative diseases. Well now we have a landmark sbbbbtudy confirming that insulin is the central part of the weight-loss equation.

There are over 200 million Americans who are overweight, and collectively they are carrying around an extra 5 BILLION pounds of excess fat.

What the Boston researchers specifically found was that those who secreted high insulin levels had a far more difficult time losing weight than those who secreted low levels of insulin.

I am very grateful that these researchers produced this landmark confirmation of insulin truth. Unfortunately, they completely blew the interpretation of what they found. So let me help you sort through the researchers’ confusion.

Like most scientists they want to attribute the problem to your genes. They want you to believe that 200 million Americans are heavy because they have flawed genetics that make them hypersecrete insulin.

Folks, nothing could be further from the truth.

The reason 200 million Americans are overweight is not because of flawed genetics that cause them to make excessive insulin. Hypersecretion of insulin is an effect — NOT the cause. The reason 200 million are overweight is because they have impaired insulin receptor sensitivity.

Impaired Insulin Receptor Sensitivity

How do your insulin receptors stop working effectively?

Very simple.

This is a natural consequence that occurs when you don’t exercise and move the way you were designed to. Your body dynamically makes this adjustment because the receptors are not being used. This is very similar to what happens if you lie in bed for a few weeks; your muscles start to atrophy. Some have called this the “use it or lose it” phenomena.

So when your insulin receptors become desensitized the only way your body can adjust is to make MORE insulin. You become an insulin hypersecretor.

Why Is This Important?

Once your body releases insulin it immediately starts to inhibit your fat-burning hormone called hormone-sensitive lipase. This hormone is responsible for releasing fat into your bloodstream to be utilized as fuel. Once this enzyme is inhibited, your body is unable to burn fat and will then begin utilizing amino acids from your muscle and carbohydrates as fuel.

This will cause you to become abnormally hungry, which further feeds this vicious cycle.

The key is to have LOW levels of insulin so your body can produce large amounts of hormone-sensitive lipase and burn fat all day so you can look thin and slim.

You might want to pick up the paper edition of this week’s Time magazine as the online version of How the World Eats only shows one of the pictures from Japan, which for the most part is really healthy food. No wonder they live over 80 years. They show a picture of a family from Chad, which is virtually no food, and then a picture of food for a typical U.S. family.

This is one of the most powerful graphic illustrations as to why the United States has an obesity epidemic. Nearly all of the U.S. food (over 90 percent) was highly processed junk food. Of course, if you shop at a grocery store you probably see this all the time. It is shocking what people are putting into their bodies.

Processed junk foods will absolutely impair your insulin receptor sensitivity.

So What Can You Do?

The bottom line is very simple here, folks. Keep your insulin levels low, very low. You can measure this with an inexpensive blood test that nearly any doctor can draw for you. Your level should be about 2 or 3. The way you lower it to these levels is by exercising, avoiding processed foods and refined carbs, and by eating the appropriate amounts of carbs for your nutritional type.

This is NOT rocket science. If you apply these simple principles you will see dramatic and remarkable improvements not only in your ability to achieve your ideal weight but also in just about every other chronic degenerative disease.

Personally, I think it is criminal malpractice that fasting insulin levels are not aggressively monitored in all cases of cancer and heart disease, because they are central to the causes of both of these diseases.

We hope to offer a weight loss coaching program later this year but in the meantime you can use krill oil and fucoTHIN to help support your weight loss efforts.

How to Control Food Cravings?

Thursday 6 August 2009 @ 6:48 pm

If truth be told, there really are certain urges that we simply cannot control. Some of these are in out thoughts and some of these are in our actions, reactions and behaviors toward a number of things. At the top of the list of the urges that are somehow too hard to co0ntrol, albeit not impossible, is our addiction with certain foods.

A funny way to look at our preoccupation with food is that most of the foods that we love to consume are those that are bad for our health. Foods that are laden with fats, sweets, carbohydrates and the likes are those that are obviously part of the group. Some people try to fight off their addiction to food by going through strenuous dieting while others simply let their food addiction persist. Unfortunately, controlling the urge to eat by psych8ing the self is not part of the options that most people are going after in order to fight off food addiction and as a result, to look and feel goof because of successful weight loss.

Inevitably, controlling the urge to overeat is not easy but once we learn what triggers our satisfaction o overeat, the we just might have a clear shot into this thing. Here are a number of the factors that lead to overindulgence in food:

Fixations. There are certain things in life that we inevitably become fixated to. Some fixations are due to overindulgence and over enjoyment over such things when we are only little. Thus, the tendency is for us to look for those things again. Meanwhile, there are also fixations that become a huge part of ourselves simply because it lacked in our lives while we were in the growingup stage and now that we are adults, we have decided that we want to experience those things that we were deprived of.

Emotions. Emotions play a major role in overeating because scientifically, some foods are proven to uplift mood. One such food type is chocolate. When we eat chocolates, certain properties in these delectable sweets round up our hormones and produce the happy hormone in us, thus uplifting our mood. Hence, we often hear people say that they feel much better after eating chocolates. The only problem is, of course, the aftermath of eating too many chocolates can lead to weight gain and of course, high blood glucose.

Society. The social circle we are part of also affects the way we live our lives. Invariably, it also influences our eating habits, our food choices and therefore, our diet plans. Although this is a very common thing, we can adapt and adjust in such a way that we wouldn’t be too affected to the extent that we already allow ourselves to go fat and horrendously overweight just because the peers that we are with love eating.

We can always say no. We can always discipline ourselves. In the end, everything leads back to our ability to control ourselves.

Is Vitamin D Deficiency a Micro Diagnosis?

Wednesday 5 August 2009 @ 10:37 pm

Building nutrients (protein and fat) build, thicken, fuel and heat. Cleansing nutrients (water, minerals, sugar, vitamins, etc.) reduce, cleanse, cool and moisten. Vitamin A, D (three kinds), E and K are a fat soluble vitamins. Vitamins B and C are water soluble.

There are three kinds of Vitamin D.

D-3 (most potent) comes from the sun. It is converted by the skin (face, arms, etc.) into active Vitamin D. Twenty minutes exposure to the sun three times a weekis more than sufficient in providing active Vitamin D. If you live in a dark, overcast climate, then you will need to eat more protein and fat, which are high in Vitamin D.

D-2 is derived from food and requires strong digestion to convert into active Vitamin D. It is commonly found in eggs, fish, dairy, butter, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, vegetable oils, etc.

Poor, weak digestion transforms less, reducing nutrient, protein, fat, Vitamin D absorption, blood, creating deficiency symptoms, fatigue, pallor, coldness, and in the extreme, weak, thin bones, teeth, skin, hair, nals, etc. Proper diet, not vitamin D supplements, cures this type of Vitamin D deficiency

D-5 is synthetic and difficult to absorb, activate.

Vitamin deficiency is, in general, not separate from the overall diet or digestion. Digestion transforms food, nutrients into blood. The hardest nutrients to digest, transform are protein and fat

Poor diet, low protein, low fat and or high carbohydrate (grains, pasta, bread, vegetables, especially salads, tropical fruits, juices, sugar, etc.) in the, extreme, tend to create protein and fat deficiency, of which a very small part is Vitamin D. Diagnosing a Vitamin D defieincy without identifying the overall pathology (poor diet, protein and fat deficiency, sugar, weak digestion) is misleading and harmful, as it does not cure but only perpetuate the disease.

The following is the recommended middle diet, meal plan. 1/3 protein and fat: Chicken, turkey, eggs, hard cheese, beans, nuts and seeds 1/3 grain (whole, cracked, noodles, bread) 1/3 vegetables, 3- 5 cooked, not overcooked: carrots with tops, broccoli, cabbage, kale, collard greens ceelry, hard squash, cauliflower, etc. and fruit (1). Reduce, avoid tomatoes, potatoes and eggplant. Reduce tropical fruits, sodas, sugar and cold drinks. Eat organically grown, if possible. Spices (cardamon, cumin, coriander, fennel, ginger, turmeric, cayenne, cinnamon, etc) increase digestion, help prevent colds, flu’s. etc. Use in soups, vegetable dishes, desserts, etc. Soup (at the beginning) and tea (at the end).

Vitamin deficiency diagnosis is, in general, a waste of time, if it does not lead to a greater diagnosis.

Guide To a Successful Fundraiser

Wednesday 5 August 2009 @ 7:37 pm

Days of hectic activity, prolonged hours at work, frequent meetings; you may think that these descriptions come straight out of the diary of a professional. But this can well be the account of a person who has just been assigned the task of organizing a fundraiser. There are too many things to be done within too less a time and therefore it may become chaotic. Not sure about whom to ask for a guide to a successful fundraiser? Then read on.

You may be organizing a youth sports fundraiser, a school fundraiser or a high school fundraiser but the basic rules remain the same for each one of them. The planning for the fundraiser holds the key and therefore you need to ensure that you have got the best planners at work. Lay down a detailed description of the kind of fundraiser that you wish to organize, its venue, schedule, participants and a rough estimate of the amount that you wish to raise. The participants and the sellers need to be briefed well about the objective of the fundraiser and the monetary share of the sellers.

After the basics are done, it is time to work on the framework. Get as many volunteers and sellers as you can to work on the fundraiser. Even if you are doing the larger share of the work connected with the fundraiser, it is not humanly possible to keep a tab on everything that is going on behind the scenes. Build up a team of efficient volunteers and you can bank on them to take responsibility for a particular aspect of the fundraiser.

Since the purpose of a fundraiser is to raise funds, you must make sure that the maximum funds are generated through the event. For that you need to make it known to one and all in the neighborhood. Talk to friends, put up banners, publish details on your website and hope for some word of mouth publicity.

A direct seller fundraiser works best when you attempt to gather large amount of money for a cause. If it is a school fundraiser, then it is difficult to make children donate generously. As kids they expect that they will get something in return as well. Direct seller fundraisers can have healthy snacks as a product. If priced reasonably, they can help garner a good amount.

When parents come to know that a healthy fundraising event has been organized in the school, they won’t stop their kids from participating. In fact, most of them are worried about the food items at a fundraiser as these mainly include junk food and chocolates. With the imposition of health laws that ban chocolate fundraising in several schools, a healthy fundraising alternative is the need of the hour. None of the parents want their kids to experience problems like Type 2 Diabetes and obesity so early in life.

So if you utilize organizational skills and delegate responsibility, then you can hope for a good turnout at the event, thereby making it a grand success.

Alec Moreland promotes wellness, nutrition and healthy snacks in fundraising to reduce obesity and Type 2 Diabetes in schools. “America’s #1 Healthy Snack Fundraiser” is The Chocolate Alternative.

The Problem with Overeating

Wednesday 5 August 2009 @ 7:09 pm

Overeating, over consumption of foods, and overindulgence in foods. These concepts have different wordings but if we look into it all, we can see that they are all pretty much the same. The reason why most diet programs fail is due to overeating. On one hand, we may say that overeating only sets in when a person becomes too deprived of the foods that his or her body has grown used to and as a result, the body retaliates by indulging in food cravings. Although this is a valid reason in itself, there is actually another reason behind overeating.

When we undergo dieting, we also cut down on many food choices. As a result, we develop a sense of adaptation to the foods that we have restricted ourselves into. But then again, when we reach a certain point where we would have to encounter the foods that we used to love so much, our appetites react to it in such a way that makes us want to overeat. This is what we call trigger foods.

Trigger foods aren’t necessarily a type of food group. Trigger foods are anything that when consumed by an individual invariably brings out his or her appetite. The thing that we should learn first is to recognize what our trigger foods. If we don’t know what our trigger foods are, then we would have a difficult time to ward off against these foods which seemingly enhances our appetites.

Once the particular type of trigger food for a certain individual is realized, he or she must do dire efforts to stay away from it. This should be done for a particular cycle until such tie that the trigger food no longer has the effect of such an enhanced appetite.

Once the trigger food is realized and the efforts to ward off against it effects are already through, the thing that the dieter must do is to find a particular type of diet regimen that would best work for him or for her. At this point, it would already be necessary to make gradual yet drastic lifestyle choices so as to teach the system to adapt to a healthier lifestyle. Lastly, you should go about your way to weight loss pursuits while harnessing a different mindset about your particular addiction to food.

Addressing your thoughts about overeating must therefore become a major part of your weight loss plan. This means you need to determine the reasons why you overeat. Of course the simple answer would be to say that you are hungry, but it is more than that. Determining what your reasons are for overeating will give you behaviors to focus on, behaviors, in which, you can learn to change. This is the first and the most practical way to lose weight.

Making Weight Loss a Priority

Wednesday 5 August 2009 @ 12:38 pm

Whether we admit it to ourselves or not, the truth is already staring us hard in our faces. The concepts on weight loss are indeed becoming more complex. Of all these, though, one concept that really seems to stand out is the concept on GI or the Glycemic Index.

What is this Glycemic Index and how does it affect weight loss and for that matter, weight gain?

The Glycemix Index is the rate by which the foods that we consume can be broken down into glucose. Actually, the process of digestion and metabolism is that all the foods that we consume will be broken down into glucose, but through consuming the foods that have low Glycemix Index, the broken down foods can have less effect on the rise of an individual’s blood sugar level. Consequently, this means that the person who follows the low Glycemix Index would also have more chances of managing his or her weight.

Once we really look deep into the issue of weight loss and dieting, we will see that foods are seen as part and parcel of the things that comprise our overall health. And if anything, this is not an exaggeration. In lieu of the effect and impact of over consumption of foods, we should thus start exercising portion control. Lack of discipline in terms of portion control is a big problem as it is more than anything else; another thing that is equally important is the food selection that we limit ourselves to.

Obviously, Americans men and women love eating foods that are laden with fats, sugar, and carbohydrates. We all know that these types of foods are exactly those that can hamper the health of the individual and as such, making a lifestyle change is necessary in order to manage weight and to become healthy.

Switching from the lifestyle that we are used to into something that is more filled with dieting restrictions may not be a welcoming change, but in the end, this will really do us good. But then again, what does staying healthy mean and what can we benefit from if we stick to a healthy lifestyle?

Staying healthy means that we have to live a lifestyle that is devoid of vices; common vices include smoking and drinking, but for some people eating has also become a vice. Eating too much can now be considered as food addiction and this condition is not a good thong to boot. Overeating may lead to serious health complications and as such, those people who are beginning to have the irresistible urge to eat should think twice before going into an unhealthy diet plan.

So what to do in order to boost weight loss? Opt for the healthy lifestyle and start a new diet and exercise regimen today!

Weight Loss Made Easy

Wednesday 5 August 2009 @ 12:35 pm

Who doesn’t want to have a lean and fit body? We all want to have a wonderful physique an attractive frame that would look best in any outfit. But then again, having that kind of body is not that easy. Those who want to have a superb body should be prepared to make great sacrifices and dire efforts to make themselves achieve that kind of look.

If we really look through the situation, we can easily see that there are many options that are being opened by the weight loss industry as a response to those who want to improve their physical appearance. Unfortunately, most of these weight loss options are not effective enough. Or they are not safe for usage. So the option is to go back to square one: safe and effective weight loss through dieting and exercise.

To say that losing weight is not easy is practically an understatement. There are many options but even through varieties of weight loss programs, weight loss is still hard to maintain. Oftentimes, the problem is that our bodies are unresponsive to the particular type of program that we want to pursue. There are certain things that call for a measure of individuality and losing weight through various options are one of them. A weight loss program may not work for one person but it can be the key instrument in warding off weight gain and obesity for another person.

It is really hard to understand, why most people believe that it is very easy to lose weight. The truth is that weight loss is very hard and it takes a lot of time and effort, to make it work. But for some reason people just do not want to accept it and still waste their time and money with pointless “easy and quick” diets when in reality, the success of our weight loss pursuits ultimately lies on our own hands.

Weight loss can be achieved through the first step which is to realize your weight loss goal. After this realization, the dieter can then opt to make ends meet so that he or she can live up to the measures that it would need to boost weight loss.

Deciding not to opt for weight loss even when a person evidently needs to get rid off the extra pounds in his or her body may result to rapid weight gain, uncontrollable, and in the end, to obesity. To fight this off, exercise cautions at all times. Try to live a healthier lifestyle and make the right lifestyle choices so that weight loss goals can be realized without hassles or inconveniences. The key to weight loss is keen understanding and discipline without it, weight loss goals would remain unattainable.

Weight Loss: Back to the Basics

Wednesday 5 August 2009 @ 12:34 pm

Our weight loss dilemmas are getting the best of us that is not an exaggeration. Once we step up and look at weight loss in a different perspective, we will begin to realize that we are wrong in our pursuits to push for weight loss through mediocre means. Oftentimes, we try so hard to resort to weight loss techniques that we fail to see that there are simple ways to lose weight which we only overlook.

Accordingly, studies show that a high percentage of the dieters in the country face weight loss failures for the reason that weight loss is not something that they understand. Moreover, they also don’t understand how their bodies respond to their weight loss techniques. Actually, our lack of understanding comes from so much useless information that is thrown at us from all sides of the media. We are too busy looking at the latest weight loss programs to understand the basic fats of fat loss.

Here are some weight loss basics that we should not undermine, unless we want to gain weight and become obese in the long run:

Calories are bad, fats are not so. Dieters often practice the cutting off of fat in their diets just so they can lose weight, without thinking that fats are also an essential part of our diet regimen. The fact is, it is not the fat, but the amount of calories that we consume that is the enemy. While it is true that a gram of fat has more calories than a gram of protein, many people eat more proteins and a carbohydrate because they assume that fat is the enemy.

Eating three times a day is ideal. Many of us are raised to believe that eating three times a day is ideal, but the truth of the matter is that it really is not so. Eating heavy meals three times a day will only slow down our metabolism, and that is not good for us. A better alternative is to spread the meals through out the day; healthier meals throughout the day can keep your metabolism burning fat all day long.

Do not live by weighing scales. There are times when we get so conscious about the weight we should lose that we make it a point to check our weight everyday. Piece of advice: do not make this a habit. Do not live by weight loss every minute of everyday; otherwise, you will easily become affected every time when in reality, weighing scales should only be used as a guide. It’s not a hundred percent accurate.

Eat but do not overeat. Exercising portion control is a good option but always remembers to allow you some leeway. Eat on time and don’t skip meals. Eat the right amount of food to supply you with adequate energy and use that energy so it would not get stuck as fat in your system.
