Pay Per Click Promotion - A Beginner’s Guide

Tuesday 28 July 2009 @ 10:30 am

Getting started with pay per click marketing can seem intimidating to many, and very easy to some. It is really neither of those two extremes. It’s not something you can dive into with no knowledge at all, but once you have learned as much as you can, it is not too difficult to implement profitably.

In essence, this is how pay per click works: You bid a certain amount for a keyword or a set of keywords. Whenever someone searches for that keyword on one of the search engines, your ad is displayed on the search page as a ’sponsored link’. If the searcher finds your ad relevant and then clicks on it, you end up owing the PPC engine the amount you bid. In exchange, the PPC engine will send the searcher through your ad to your website, giving you the opportunity to sell or collect information - whatever it is that will eventually bring you profit.

Pay per click is a more efficient than some other forms of advertising because you really only pay for those prospects who not only view the ad, but are interested enough to click onto your site. Make sure that the wording in the ads is highly related to the keyword in the search term. Often, a PPC engine will highlight the keyword in the ad, making it stand out to searchers. And of course, just drawing them to your site is not enough - it’s up to you to make a convincing pitch on your site and close the ’sale’.

Once the potential customer has clicked on your ad and they have been directed to your ‘landing page’, it’s down to the content to be of good quality to ensure the searcher is happy. This page should also have lots of matching keywords - it should appear in the page content, title and meta tags.

You can increase the chances of a sale by making sure your keywords are highly focused on your offer. Try to avoid general keywords since these don’t convert nearly as well as more tightly focused ‘longer tail’ keywords. Longer tail keywords are a set or string of words which make up a search term. For example, ‘dog training’ is a keyword and ‘training my labrador to stop barking’ is a longer tail keyword.

The use of pay per click promotion is a great method for generating more cash for your business. With the right preparation, I’m sure you’ll enjoy getting involved in this exciting new way to market on the internet.

Pay Per Click - Making the Right Choice of PPC Engine

Tuesday 28 July 2009 @ 10:30 am

While Google Adwords is the most popular PPC engine, you might want to look into using more than one. As soon as you have launched a successful campaign with one engine, it is very easy to move it to another and such a move can drastically increase your profits and internet exposure. Of course, don’t bother doing this with campaigns that are failing, or you aren’t certain will be successful - pretty much what is successful on one engine will likely be so on another. Before you make the decision to expand to another PPC engine, be sure you know it will be a profitable move.

You probably already know that Google is currently by far the most popular PPC engine. They have the market share of web searchers so it stands to reason that you will reach the largest possible audience using Google’s Adwords. Bear in mind however, that Adwords can be pretty expensive, and may not always be worth it for you. Getting your quality score to a good level on each campaign will be vital in bringing your costs down. It’s worth noting that Yahoo is an up-and-coming search marketer that many businesses are switching to as either an alternative or an additional avenue.

Although Yahoo might be more cost-effective, bear in mind that it’s not necessarily the easiest to use. Some users find its interface clunky and difficult, and simply not worth the time it takes to use. Google Adwords on the other hand, is streamlined and easy to use and other search marketing companies look to it for inspiration.

When considering PPC companies to sign up with, be sure to keep an eye out for coupons. Yahoo often has $50-$100 coupons for those who start a new campaign. This is a good incentive to try out a new PPC search engine.

Even though Google Adwords is easy to use, it is not the only PPC engine that works well when you are used to using it. Yahoo, MSN and other PPC engines are all highly effective when used correctly. Once you have become used to the various interfaces your ads will become as effective as possible. It doesn’t hurt to try several different ones before deciding upon one that works best for you and ramping up your campaigns.

Choosing the search engine that’s right for you doesn’t need to be difficult. Just remember to get the proper training before you dive in. If you understand your goals and how you want to reach them, it will soon become apparent which search engines work better for you than others.

AdWords Pay per Click - Using Google to Your Advantage

Tuesday 28 July 2009 @ 10:29 am

Google is the most popular search engine, so the use of Google’s Adwords is essential if you wish to maximize the potential of Pay-per-click marketing. A great many people use Adwords to bid on advertisements and using it for your business can be a very smart move.

An important first step in the use of Adwords is to go to its own help section on adwords.com. It will answer the most common questions, although it doesn’t delve too deeply into its more complex workings. This is a good start, but you should get more information before diving in.

Fortunately, there are many guides and e-books available to help you through the process. Another alternative is to hire a pay per click coach. Keep in mind that a coach can be very expenseive, and you need to consider that you will be spending a fair amount of money on Adwords itself.

One important thing you need to keep in mind is that Adwords has a quality score. If your landing page is not high quality, you might be “Google slapped,” which will make it hard to bid on the search terms you want. On the bright side, if your quality is high, your bids tend to be lower.

Another thing you need io be aware of is that many people create the wrong kind of ad. They are going for quantity over quality. The fact is, you don’t want everyone clicking on your ad. Just because you get a lot of traffic, it doesn’t follow that it is quality. It’s important to attract the best customers, rather than large numbers that have no potential. If you educate yourself by reading a guide, you can save a great deal of money you might otherwise waste by figuring it out on your own.

Don’t be put off by the fact that you will need to do a bit of legwork before getting started. Once you have the basics down, you can start bidding. Many people find the bidding fun, even addictive, and once you’ve learned how to create targeted ads and get your bids down, you will find yourself making good money.

If you make good use of Adwords, you can make a lot of money. Just keep in mind that a lot of people have also lost a lot of money because they didn’t fully understand how to bid and which keywords to choose. This is easy to avoid, simply by reading an Adwords guide that will help you run a profitable campaign.

Pay Per Click Optimization - Things You Need to Know to Make More Money

Tuesday 28 July 2009 @ 10:26 am

Once you have launched your pay per click campaign, you need to start optimizing - that is, you need to expand ads that are doing well and get rid of those that are underperforming. This goes beyond targeting your ads, keywords and landing pages. Optimization is something you need to do, no matter where you are in your experience in pay per click marketing. It’s a continuous process that can make all the difference between making a little money and making a whole lot of money!

You will probably notice that certain ads just perform much better than others. The 80/20 rule is definitely at work when you’re looking at pay per click optimization - you’ll probably find that 20% of your ads doing really well and the other 80% is spread across those that don’t work and those that are average. You’ll definitely want to work on expanding the winners - so get rid of the ones that don’t work and target optimizing the 20% that are doing really well. Of course, once you are sure you can do no more then it’s time to focus on your average ads or campaigns and bring them up a step or two. You can use other pay per click engines to run other ads that target that same traffic and build on what you know will work - especially if your niche has a lot of competition and traffic. Once you know what is working, you can focus on ranking through natural search engine optimization as well (I have seperate articles in regards to search optimization).

An important step - perhaps the most important step - in optimization is to track your ads to see which ones are converting once people click them. There are some different methods you can use. These include software and script programs that can tell you which keywords have the best conversion rate. A less technical way to accomplish this is to add tracking IDs to the end of your URLs - you’ll find instruction on how you can do this via your search engine. Google Adwords has a particualrly good tracking function.

Something you will probably want to do on a daily basis is check your conversions so you know when to cut your losses. A popular cutoff point is to drop a keyword that has not converted after 200-300 clicks, however this will depend on what you are spending to get those clicks. You don’t want to spend mney on keywords that convert only slowly or not at all. If you find that a keyword does convert, just not at a very high rate, you might be able to tweak it and make it perform a bit better.

Optimization is simply about making high-performing keywords and ads work harder for you while dropping or adjusting those that aren’t doing as well. If you continuously improve your campaigns, you will soon find yourself making more money than ever before, while not working any harder.

Pay Per Click Guides - Finding The Right One For You

Sunday 26 July 2009 @ 4:20 pm

Taking the plunge into pay per click might seem like a scary step, and one you don’t feel quite ready to take. One of the best things you can do to allay your fears is to purchase a pay per click guide. Think of it as any other educational experience. Many useful skills can be acquired through a combination of study and hands-on experience.

If you’re just getting started in paid advertising, finding the right guide is very important. A lot of internet marketers get started using search engine optimization and focus on natural search results. Moving up to a paid option can seem like a very big step.

A lot of people lose a lot of money in paid advertising because they don’t understand some of the important facets of it. You can avoid making these mistakes by investing in a good guide. If the cost seems prohibitive, bear in mind that it’s probably only a fraction of what you might spend if you dive in and make some costly errors simply because you didn’t know any better.

It’s vitally important that you understand what common beginner’s mistakes are and how to avoid them. It’s also important to know what to test and what sorts of things not to do while building a profitable campaign. If you follow a reputable guide, you will get a head start on becoming an experienced pay per click bidder, and will start making money with your campaigns much more quickly.

There are a few different ways to approach finding a guide that works for you. As with many aspects of internet marketing, it’s best not to overthink and spend too long weighing all the options. Some factors to consider are price, presentation and the author’s reputation. If you can afford it, you might get more than one, since different marketers can vary in their focus. You might find in one guide something that was overlooked in another one.

Another approach you can take in shopping for a guide is to read some reviews. Look for ones that are impartial, and that aren’t written for the purpose of promoting one particular product. Reading reviews will also help you decide if a guide has the same focus that you do. You may wish to choose a guide that focuses on the same pay per click engine that you are interested in. It’s also helpful to know if the guide’s author is well-known and experienced in internet marketing. You want to be sure to learn from the best.

The key is to gather enough information that you can get started without making a lot of obvious and costly mistakes. Don’t spend too long in this phase however. In the long run, you’ll learn the most simply by getting started and carefully observing what generates the most profits for you.

Google Pay Per Click - Getting Started

Tuesday 21 July 2009 @ 9:54 pm

While there are several good pay per click marketing companies out there, there are some good reasons to consider Google first. Because Google is so incredibly popular, you’ll most likely generate much more traffic than you would with other search engines. Most other search engines, even popular ones, generate only a fraction of the traffic that Google does.

Google’s Adwords is the most well-known PPC company. Once you have learned how to use it profitably, you will be able to use any of the others out there as well. In fact, Google Adwords is where a great many internet marketers first got started - including me! Once you are experienced in it’s methods, you should quickly become profitable.

Another good reason to use Google is that Adwords simply has a far more advanced interface than most, if not all, of the others out there. You will probably discover this yourself as you use them.

Google pay per click can be an incredibly profitable venture if you take the time to learn how it works. Read everything you can find on the topic of PPC, but set a time limit, so you don’t endlessly put off getting started. After studying a few guides, run a few test campaigns. This is the best way for you to find out what works best, while taking minimal financial risk. It’s easy for costs to run out of control, but if you’ve educated yourself before getting started in PPC, you will know how to make it work to your advantage, and make a lot of money! Learning by doing is the mantra of PPC marketing.

One of the most important considerations when using Adwords is how to get good quality scores. No one knows exactly how Google calculates its quality score for landing pages & ads, but there are a few basic things you can do to the page your ad drives traffic to, that can get you a higher score, which in turn will lead to lower ‘click bids’ and higher profitability.

One thing you need to keep in mind while bidding on keywords is that they need to match the information on your landing page. The title, keywords and main information on the page need to be relevant to the search. Be sure that it is easy for visitors to find what they are looking for because Google rates the accuracy and relevance for the user very highly. Also be aware that if you use trademarked terms, your ad may very well be disabled. Some of the basic factors that apply to search engine optimization also apply to pay per click.

There are many positive things about Google Adwords, but it’s important to bear in mind that they are quite strict. This is not a bad thing, since the high quality of their search results is a big factor in their success. The key is learning how to work with them and have this very popular model contribute to your own success.

The Great Google Adwords Qualification Scam

Tuesday 21 July 2009 @ 7:34 pm

You’ve decided to get someone to manage your Adwords account and the company you are going to pick is proudly displaying their Google Adwords Qualified Company Logo. So you can relax knowing your account will be managed by someone that has passed the Google Qualification.

Wrong. It does not guarantee that at all.

You would be forgiven for thinking that a company that proudly displays the Google Adwords Qualified Company Logo has passed some special examination or maybe that all of their Adwords Managers have the qualification. Surely the award means something like that doesn’t it?

Well in fact it doesn’t. It doesn’t promise anything of the kind. The truth of the matter is that Google offer two qualifications for professional status.

The first is as an Adwords Qualified Individual. Anyone with this qualification has passed the Google examination and all its other criteria to become a qualified individual.

To become a Qualified Company the criteria that they have to meet is as follows (taken direct from Google’s help files):

1) Have a billing and mailing address in a country where company qualification is available. You can get the list of available countries from Google.
2) Employ at least two Qualified Individuals in the program. Individuals must be qualified under the main company-registered My Client Center account and not their own account.
3) Build and maintain the minimum 90-day required total client spend for the company’s My Client Center account. The spend amount varies by country.

So once a company has met items 1 and 3 from the list above, all they will need are TWO Qualified Individuals to claim to be a Qualified Company. It doesn’t matter how big or small the company is. They just need two!

Obviously I am not claiming that all companies displaying their Qualified Logo are out to deceive you or plan to pass onto you their most inexperienced Adwords Managers. They may in fact only use Qualified Individuals.

My worry here is that anyone hiring someone from an Adwords Qualified Company may assume that they are getting a Qualified Individual to run their Adwords campaigns. There are companies who do not always have the customers well being at the heart of their business philosophy and they are unlikely to clearly explain exactly who you are getting to manage your account.

My advice is to check that you are getting what you think you are paying for. Before you hire a Company to manage your account, ask them who exactly is going to manage your account and ask for their Adwords Professional ID so that you can check for yourself that they have indeed passed the criteria.

If the company you are talking to cannot give you those assurances and only gives you excuses then move on. There is no good reason why they cannot supply that guarantee other than the fact that they have something to hide.

Internet Marketing Tips - Adwords And The Titles To An Ad

Wednesday 15 July 2009 @ 9:03 pm

There are a lot of facets and components to successful Google Adwords marketing. If one maximizes these various components then an internet business may discover its profits skyrocketing. Perhaps this skyrocketing may not occur overnight but if consistent effort is made towards boosting one’s business then the end result of increased revenues is possible implementing these internet marketing tips. Again, the success of an Adwords campaign is based on the sum of its part and one of the most important components is the title of the ad itself.

Consider the following two examples of a title:
“Link Directory Submission” Vs.”1000’s of Links Directory Submission under $10″

Now, which title is going to catch a person’s eye? The generic title does little more than let people know what the purpose of the ad is. The second title provides a ton of information on the service being offered. Within the title the potential “clicker” is informed of the back that the link will be submitted to a huge volume of directories for a very low cost. Obviously, the latter will probably attract more people. It stands out, it is bold and it stresses the fact that the service is providing a deal.

Try to avoid, however, lame advertising catch phrasing like “amazing deal!” or “lowest prices on earth!” because such hyperbole is often overused and has a tendency to lead to disappointments. Of course, it also goes without saying that the title should not be a blatant mistruth. If the title promises something “with a catch” then you are not going to end up with very many conversions. So, do not create a title that will lead to immediate disappointment on the part of the advertiser. But, if you are offering a valuable service with a ton of benefits then your title should scream this.

These little internet marketing tips can be a small goldmine. Keep your eyes and ears open all the time. You never know when one might cross your path. When it does, save it in a folder on your computer if you can’t use it right away. One of the best things you can do is start what I call a swipe file. I like to copy sales letters for their sales copy and put them in my swipe file for later reference. When I start a new website or landing page, I will look through my swipe file and pick out some of the best related sales copy to generate ideas for my site. It may make all the difference in the world to your internet business.
