Smart Phone Devices And The Internet

Friday 31 July 2009 @ 10:33 am

Technology is a wonderful thing, who could have imagined even three years ago that the increase in mobile devices would lead to the invention of an entirely new market for the internet? With a nationwide G3 network of satellite communications people are turning their cellular devices into powerful communications tools that are keeping them connected not only to the contacts in their telephone directory, but also to the internet and social networking websites where up to the minute information can be accessed at a moments notice.

While away from their desks and computers many people are using the smart devices to search for local businesses to provide services for both their professional and personal lives. The ability to instantaneously search the internet for a keyword and find the matching results while using a handheld device is making the internet even more influential as the number of people switching to smart phone devices continues to rise.

Finding a local restaurant and getting directions has never been easier. Browsing the web for a new purse while waiting for a movie to start is something that no one could have imagined five years ago. The reality is that as more people join in the technological surge of smart devices the more businesses are beginning to rely on the unique marketing possibilities that are being offered through internet based marketing firms.

People are finding out that the internet is an accessible resource that is open twenty four hours a day and that finding access to the consumer driven entertainment and informational databases that are online no longer requires the connection of a computer. For businesses that want to keep a competitive edge in their online store fonts there has never been a greater need for internet marketing services than right now.

Internet marketing optimizes websites for easier search integrity by the search engines and allows online businesses to stand out from the crowd through giving them a clear cut advantage of internet sites that are lined up and waiting for people to find them. It is a proactive approach to the business that makes it a viable source of information to consumers and drives the online sales of that business through disciplined targeted approaches that maximize the ability of a business to attract and convert visitors to the web into paying customers.

As more consumers are discovering the convenience of internet use through hand held devices the business of marketing effectively on the internet is something that every business will have to do if they want to be competitive in the online world.

Building An Internet Presence Is Only The Beginning

Friday 31 July 2009 @ 10:22 am

It is amazing that from anywhere in the world with a laptop computer and an internet connection anyone can access the world wide web and navigate their way through the online environment to come up with exactly what they want, when they want it. The internet is the first and only place that many people go to, to find the information, entertainment and services of businesses and retailers that sustain them in their daily lives. It is remarkable that such a powerful tool has come into being and that with the availability of broadband internet connections the world has become an open marketplace for the free exchange of ideas.

With all of the marvelous offerings of the internet available to consumers the downside to business is being able to send out effective advertising messages and reach the online community with internet marketing campaigns that are not only visually appealing, but that are designed to draw in the audience and lead them to the all important purchasing decisions that businesses rely on for their success.

Finding creative ways to conduct internet marketing is the primary goal of many advertising agencies in the competitive world of advertising. Once upon a time agencies competed for consumer attention with highly polished television commercials and catchy jingles that caught in the memory of the public and subconsciously reminded them of the advertisers brand and products when they were out shopping. Nowadays the consumers are too busy to be pulled in by the glossy messages of television and radio and the buying habits of the American people have changed with the growing number of businesses that are joining the online revolution.

In order to compete today businesses need to have an internet presence that is formidable and attracts consumers to their site. As a result advertising is changing to reflect the needs of the online generation and internet marketing is becoming the number one source of advertising to consumers. Building a website and believing that They Will Come is not an approach that successful businesses are undertaking as it is necessary to promote a website and be creative in gaining popularity and attracting consumers.

There are many internet marketing entities popping up that are claiming to do the job of helping businesses to stand out on the internet, however there are very few that can accomplish the goals of their clients and do what is necessary to bring traffic and conversion to sales for the numerous businesses that are looking for creative ways to brand themselves and build a formidable online presence. By using the internet to do a little research and find the best internet marketing companies business owners can easily see what companies are performing and can deliver on their claims to bring consumers to the doors of online businesses and convert shoppers into buyers.

Increasing Your Rankings With Five Website Marketing Strategies

Friday 31 July 2009 @ 9:57 am

Search engine marketing (SEM), also known as search engine optimisation (SEO), is an effective website marketing strategy used for years. Through SEM, you drive visitors to your website by optimising your website to rank competitively in the major search engines for your most important keywords. Whether selling retail products, offering a service, or just trying to generate leads, search engine marketing can help you reach motivated people ready to make a purchase.

The effectiveness of this search engine marketing strategy matches its complexity as the organic algorithms of the search engines change constantly. While staying up to date does take time and effort, the incredible benefits and increased website ranking provided by these website marketing strategies are worth the effort.

Pay Per Click (PPC) Marketing

Google AdWords is probably the best known example of pay per click (PPC) marketing. This search engine marketing strategy offers enormous potential because it delivers a reliable and predictable return on investment. If you implement PPC carefully with an eye on every detail, it is a powerful tool. By constantly focusing on cost per click, click-through rates, and backend conversions, PPC just might be one of the most important website marketing strategies. However, if you don’t diligently watch your PPC campaigns, you may find it wastes more money that it produces.

Social Media

LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and other social media websites have millions of members. Every member possesses a circle of influence within their personal network on these websites. You can utilize social media in your marketing campaign to reach inside these circles of influence and their networks.

Today, businesses in all industries allocate some of their website marketing efforts to social networking. You can not only reach your target audience with social media, but you can also control your marketing messages and lure them to your website as it positions your website in front of people who may not use the search engines.

Social Bookmarking

The predecessor to social media, social bookmarking is still a viable website marketing strategy as personal networks ‘tag’ websites to share them with others. Tagging can result in hundreds of visitors heading to your website, especially if the person sharing has a large following. If you have compelling web copywriting and content on your website, you can also gain inbound links as more people visit and share your website with others. These types of links add huge value to your search engine marketing campaign.

Blogging

Business blogs have become an excellent tool for all industries. Blogs offer an ideal platform for informing your audience with a human voice. In addition, Google and the other search engines provide blogs with higher organic rankings when you add new content regularly. Blogging offers an easy and seamless way to boost your website ranking.

While these five website marketing strategies are easy and work well in today’s internet world, new search engine marketing strategies will likely appear soon. Some will fade away quickly while others will remain popular. Don’t wait for what’s on the horizon, implement these five strategies now to ensure the success of your website and business.

Gearing Marketing Toward Generation Y

Thursday 30 July 2009 @ 9:48 pm

Over the past decade there has been a paradigm shift in the way that businesses are marketing themselves to the public. Once polished corporate America with its Madison Avenue buttoned down approach to mass media advertising has been replaced with more relaxed approaches that are tailored toward generation Y. The non trusting, does not buy into the commercialism of product offerings attitude of generation Y is spilling over into the methodologies of effective marketing strategists that are aware of the up and coming generations view of the transparency of more traditional forms of advertising.

With the advent of digital video recorders and downloadable music for MP3 players the advertising industry has been faced with the growing problem of how to target the up and coming consumers of today and how to gain access to their billions of dollars of disposable income. With the ability to access information and entertainment anywhere at the their fingertips consumers today are able to circumvent broadcast commercials and still be fulfilled with their video and audio needs. Radio stations across the country are feeling the effects of losing their advertising clients as businesses search for more effective means of reaching generation Y.

Marketing firms that have been turned on their ear by the trends of electronic devices designed to bypass advertising message have been forced to explore new avenues of marketing in previously uncharted territory. Because of wide use as both a business tool and an entertainment channel the internet is drawing crowds of users into cyberspace. The last real thorough fair for advertisers to attempt to reach their target audiences is through online internet marketing.

Where once the approach to advertising was to blanket a city, region of nation with mass marketed messages the trick to effective advertising nowadays is to have the consumer seek out the advertiser and to capture sales in the moment that online consumers are ready to buy. Strategic internet marketing campaigns are designed to be so focused on the individual consumer that tactics and implementation of successful advertising online marketing campaigns hinge on the very structure and orientation of consumer driven business websites and keyword searches through online search engines that web surfing consumers use to find exactly what they want at exactly the time they want it.

In total opposition to the old standard of mass marketing, internet marketing is changing the way that businesses look at consumers to reflect how consumers view business. In contrast to the mass media messages of yesterday, targeting multiple consumers over the internet is today requires skill and finesse on behalf of the advertiser to find attention getting ways to draw in the consumer while allowing the targeted individuals to the freedom to seek out the advertising that they themselves choose to be subjected to.

Online Technology Is Changing:Listening Platforms

Thursday 30 July 2009 @ 9:37 am

People will always be talking about your brand and you need to always have an ear on each conversation. Until recently, it took well over six months to launch a product.

Now, thanks to social media, it can take as little as six weeks to get you off the ground. In the past, quite predictably, a company would launch a campaign or product then issue a press release and wait a couple days or weeks for the news cycle before they can plan a reaction.

These days you see reactions to such events on social media sites such as youtube, twitter and other sites barely hours after the launch. In a reversal off roles, today social media has become the standard, while print and television media outlets are starting to be considered traditional.

Consumers continue to use social technologies to drive and control online performance of brands. This has forced organisations to follow suit in order to reclaim their brands by going beyond tracking brand mentions and impressions. Corporations to engage their customers are using social media is more less an ad-hoc market research.

There are various methods and reasons for measuring performance from multiple sources;
1) Measuring and demonstrating customer loyalty over time by
repeat sales and referrals
2) Tracking the volume and sentiment of the posts and
comments written about the company over a period of time
3) Tracking the number of your fans and followers
4) Tracked of conversations, responses, and discussions
5) Tracking the number of customer service issues that are
resolved or channeled through community platforms
6) Tracking and comparing their resolution rate between
community channel and other channels such as phone and
email

The need to capture these data has led to creation of analytical tools that have been branded online listening platforms. These are intelligent metrics savvy tools that can be leveraged to tap into corporate metrics terminology and methodology. This listening practice provide corporations with real-time online conversations (from customers, prospects, competitors, suppliers, shareholders) about company’s service, brand or products.

Online conversations provide a company with an opportunity to engage with customers, prospects, and influencers about their brand/product.

These insightful communication systems include: product feedback, purchase evaluation criteria, competitive offerings, and customer satisfaction. Online conversations include: blog posts, blog comments, forum posts, tags (images and videos), tweets. The technology enables the corporation to establish a corporate profile. Profile will include topics and keywords used to identify relevant online conversations by corporate and customers.

To make decisions on what is best for the company, this new technology can be used to refine topics and keywords for market promotion based on the online conversations returned via a listening platform. Weekly metrics including volume of online conversations, primary sources of online conversations, business insights and recommendations can be aggregated and analysed.

The sentiments can be manually scored as negative, neutral, mixed, and positive. Whereas most of these activities are done online, sometimes these conversions can be listened to offline as well.

Here is what one of the producers of this technology has to say: “Our reputation management software lets you target traditional and social media that matter, monitor their conversations and coverage, and produce packaged reports and analytics that give you facts that put control back into your hand where it belongs.

With qualified information you can re-align your PR teams, zero in on where you are vulnerable, and re-engage audiences with laser-focused messages. The effort is swift, effective, and cost-efficient.” The listening personnel can collate a daily hot list of online conversations. This list is then attached to some recommendations and actions for the corporate take.

These actions can promote sales; prevent public embarrassment or even legal risk. Also such insights and recommendations can be opportunity for the corporate to accent the positive mentions occurring on the web.

Internet Marketing Agency Compared To Web Developers

Wednesday 29 July 2009 @ 10:48 am

When you develop your business Web site, do you think about return on investment or how it will look? In the early 1990s, it was easy to ask a system administrator to develop a Web site. Back in those days, the Web site was mostly a brochure, and many didn’t necessarily focus on a call to action, the business brand, or the creative design. The 1990s did not require the sub-specialization needed for today’s successful Web sites.

When engaging in Web site development today, it’s critical to evaluate return on investment. In order to foster results and return on investment for a Web site development project, there are several elements which require consideration. In this discussion, we will not touch on the obvious creative development, but rather emphasize other process elements.

Brand Recognition and Strategy
How will your business name and brand interact with Web site visitors? What will these visitors take away from the Web site; and how will this strategy impact your marketing outside of your Web site later? (A very simple example that tends to be overlooked is your Favorite’s Icon for your brand, since this Icon may carry over into traditional print marketing pieces.)

Research, Strategy and Planning
Every page of your Web site has to be optimized differently and adhere to content relevancy algorithms of the search engines. Understanding how each page will be optimized is important to facilitate Web site marketing. You do not need to guess how to do this, rather use various existing tools that will help you.

Competition and Competitor research helps determine why other Web sites are ranked before yours and how to plan the development accordingly. Also, the ways in which competing Web sites are designed, how they flow and how their Web site metrics are performing will help determine what needs consideration in the planning process.

Subsequently, if every page is optimized differently then each page can become an entry point to your Web site. The impact this has significantly changes the content of each page of your Web site too.

Business and Creative Objective
This objective will determine how to develop the Web site flow. What is the call to action to get the visitor from the entry page to an information page to an action page?

Content Management Systems (CMS)
CMS gives you the ability to manage your Web pages without having know HTML code. It is an interface, in most cases, similar to using Microsoft Word. CMS uses a database and program infrastructure in order to give you this ability to present the Web pages to visitors. To use CMS, a Web site may be prepared using templates and needs to be planned for current and future considerations.

In the above items, you will find that the disciplines needed for Web site development in today’s business environment cover:
1. Brand and Marketing Intelligence
2. Creative Design
3. Technical Programming, Software and Databases
4. Web Site Assembly, Management and Maintenance

We have seen many times where clients expect their Web developers to have the knowledge and experience to plan around Web site that has results. While some developers possess this capability, unfortunately, the time and discipline required to understand these aspects are not necessarily a part of the average Web developer. Sometimes clients and Web developers have a mis-communication or misunderstanding around the expectations of the realistic results that could be better managed with the appropriate skill set.

As we think about business Web site development, we have to realize the project is not only a minimum of 3 months from start to finish, but also plan around the expected results and return on investment. You are no longer developing a brochure, but a business tool that will help generate revenue. Does your Web site perform to your business objectives?

The Benefits of an Online Business

Tuesday 28 July 2009 @ 9:53 am

These days it sometimes seems like everyone wants to get the benefits of working, but without having to do any work. You know like getting the big paycheck, but not having to put in any effort? Sounds like typical teenage behavior, but this is seen in many adults also. Why do we sometimes feel this way? I’m not completely sure, but I do know that there are many ways being created to help get us the jobs that we wished we had.

If you haven’t heard yet, there are ways for you to set up your own business without having all of the added stress and financial burdens of actually have a store to run. The reason for this is that your own business will be an online store than another company will help you set up. This is a new venture to take on and it will involve you to work, but not nearly as hard as you might think.

When you have your own business, there are many things that can make is seem impossible for you to succeed. You need to have something to sell whether it is a great product or your services. Then you need to advertise the business so that consumers will hear about you and want to be your clients. Then you need to be able to run a transaction and most commonly used these days are credit cards.

Along with transactions, you will need to keep track of all the sales to make sure you keep good financial records. Then of course, you will need some kind of policy for returns or exchanges in case customers bring back unwanted products. When you add it all up, there are so many things to deal with. You will need the help of family members or business partners and employees to ever have a successful company.

The difference between this scenario and an online business is that you will have help all along the way when you set up an online business. There is another company helping you know what to do and getting you set up to sell products from other manufacturers. These other companies will also take care of the shipping processes as well as returns and exchanges. You won’t ever deal with any of that.

Like I said earlier, you will still need to work to make this business successful, but the process is quite a bit different. If this sounds like a good way to earn extra income for your family, do a little research today on how you can get an online business.

Internet Marketing Just Makes Business Sense

Monday 27 July 2009 @ 11:20 pm

There are many methods to market a business in today’s world, but there is none that makes more sense than marketing on the internet. Business internet marketing online is one of the fastest growing marketing strategies because of the ROI versus that of other, more traditional marketing methods.

The ability to more effectively track your marketing efforts and the results is also another reason internet marketing is becoming more popular. Being able to track the effectiveness of email marketing versus newsletter, versus your website is very helpful in making smart decisions on how your marketing dollars are spent. Even being able to test multiple versions of the same campaign, including different pictures, text, links and the locations of each in the online marketing medium can fine tune your marketing efforts into a well oiled machine pushing your ROI to new limits.

Another benefit to online, business internet marketing is the ability to sell products or services with very little overhead. Nothing feels better than to wake up and see sells that happened through the night or over the weekend. It also gives you some flexibility in how and when you get your internet marketing done. More and more business owners are liking the new freedom that can come when more of the marketing efforts for the business go online.

Think about how many businesses you know at this point that do not have a website address on all of their print advertising. How many can you think of? You probably were not able to come up with many, if any, businesses that do not have a website. There is too much good that can happen from a website.

Another benefit of business internet marketing is the opportunity to brand your business. Branding is a part of marketing that has always been important, long before the internet was even invented, let alone a part of everyday life. However, the way that companies brand their business has changed, and more and more of them are turning to the internet to brand their business name.

One really effective way to brand a business online is through web videos, such as though you can see on Youtube. Smart marketing managers have found that they can brand for much cheaper and also still do it through the use of video. Video marketing has become very popular online. More searches are now done on Youtube than on Google. Internet marketing for business, does truly make a lot of sense.

Why You Should Be Going Loco Over Local

Monday 27 July 2009 @ 11:20 pm

The people who know internet marketing have been saying that brick and mortar businesses should be taking note of the local space that is being created on the internet all of the major search engines have some form of a local listing. Here are at least some reasons that those with a brick and mortar business should take notice.

1-You need to be easily found on the internet when your customers are searching for you or your industry on the internet. The last thing that you want is to have a frustrated ex-customer (because they could not find your phone number on the internet). If I need to call you I am no longer looking in a phone book on my shelf. I am hitting the computer and doing a search.

2-If you have a local sphere of influence, then you must be found when someone searches using a geo-qualifier, such as auto mechanic in Riverside, California). If I were an auto mechanic in Riverside, I had better be showing up. This is someone who if far more likely to be a customer than someone who searches, “auto mechanic”.

3-Bing, formerly Live.com, may be onto a new standard for local search. They look very similar to Google local search, but a handy little feature that you may be interested in and just may get you some more business. When someone searches the local pages, not only will they get the business name, address, phone, hours of operation and a map to that place, but it also list local businesses in the vicinity of the business that was clicked on. That could be incredibly helpful in planning trips to areas that I am not familiar with. I will likely do business with someone that I may not have otherwise, because of this small addition in the Bing local search. I have tested this and it is not perfect as it does not always return the most logical, but it should come around.

4-It is much easier to rank well for in the search engines and it converts far better. Plain and simple, you will be reaching far more of your targeted market in local search than you will be with other phrases.
If you are a local brick and mortar business, you should be going loco over local internet marketing. The opportunities are endless and the return is far better than other internet marketing efforts. This will also be easier to establish yourself in, cost less money, and happen much quicker.

Do You Come Up 1st In A Local Search For Your Keyword?

Monday 27 July 2009 @ 10:42 pm

Let me set the scenario for you so that you understand what I am talking about. A potential customer searches on the internet for something like, “Dallas Dentist”, or “Baltimore auto mechanic”. Who comes up at the top of the search engines for those searches? Is it you? If it is not, then how much business do you suppose you are losing out on?

Many brick and mortar business do not understand the importance of local search marketing. However, the fact is that more and more people are doing their research online before deciding where to purchase goods or services. If you are not at the top of the results for those local searches, then you are missing out on some business that could be coming your way.
So, need some solutions on how to come up higher in the search engines for those local searches?

There are many things that you can do, but let me explain just a few here that can get you started. If you have an internet marketing company that is doing your online marketing for you, make sure that they are making efforts in the local search internet marketing arena.
One thing that you can do to help your rankings for local searches is to make sure that you have the geo qualifiers in your page titles and meta descriptions. Remember that the title is what shows up in search results and often the meta description will as well. If you have the appropriate geo describing term in those locations, you will be more likely to show up higher in search results for keywords in which that geo term is used in the search.

Another thing that you can do is to make sure that you make some efforts in your link campaigns to link with the anchor text containing that geo qualifier in your keyword phrase. Get links from other local based websites, particularly if they are in your industry. Also make sure that you have an internal link structure that takes advantage of using a geo qualifier. The city, state, etc in the footer is also a must.

Finally, make sure that you make some efforts to submit your site to locally based directories. You can also become involved in local online forums and participate in the discussion as well as living a link to your site in the signature of each post.
