Don’t Look Back And Cringe–Find Bridesmaids’ Dresses That Work

Friday 7 August 2009 @ 10:19 pm

When I was making preparations to get married, my bridesmaids actually refused to buy the gown I had selected for each of them to wear because they did not want to go to the expense (it was barely one hundred dollars!). They proceeded to convince me that the dresses could be made by hand.

The result was atrocious, and I still cringe when I look at my wedding photos that picture them in the awful dresses. So trust me when I tell you that I know what it is like to deal with a difficult wedding party that won’t comply with your wishes.

Now, I am not of the school of thought that no matter which bridesmaid dress you select, one of your bridesmaids will hate it. I just refuse to believe it. The one I had initially selected was of a deep crimson satin, with no extra designs; there was a simple, small bow which drew up underneath the bust. It was simple; it wasn’t trendy nor was it old-fashioned. It was just right.

I still regret, as I mentioned, not being more assertive with my bridesmaids. So, when it’s your turn, do be particular about the material and the color of the dress. If you are able, try to take your bridesmaids shopping on several occasions. Look through bridal magazines as well to get some ideas on styles they like. If you let it be, this can be a great bonding experience for all of you.

Try to select a style which will be flattering on the frame of each bridesmaid. An A-line gown may do the trick, but if you have exclusively statuesque, thin bridesmaids, you can obviously make adjustments to the styles you are considering.

One way to change things up, however, is to find a manufacturer that offers different dresses in the same material and color. That way, you bridesmaids can actually select the dress which suits their taste the best, but still look stunning and somewhat uniform on your special day.

This is just my opinion, but I highly recommend you avoid gowns that are trendy. Sure, you might have a good laugh when you and your spouse look back through your wedding album and see what has changed in the world of fashion, but to me, it is more enjoyable to have a sort of “timeless,” look. Of course, it’s all up to you.

Try to have a compromising attitude with your bridesmaids, but still be firm when your decision is made. After all, you really don’t want to look back and cringe, like I do at times.

A Diamond Jewel Wedding Theme For Ultimate Elegance

Friday 7 August 2009 @ 3:40 am

Today a diamond ring is given by a man to a woman when he asks her to marry him. Although other gems are still used for engagement rings, 78 percent of the rings sold have diamonds.

If the woman accepts, the engagement ring represents the couple’s love, fidelity and commitment to each other. When the woman wears the engagement ring, she is promising to marry the man who gave it to her. Diamond ring wedding theme decor is the perfect way to celebrate the meaning behind this age-old tradition.

Add glittering glamor to your special day by choosing a diamond jewel wedding theme . No matter what colors you use, diamonds are accents that match everything.

The moment you get engaged is a fantasy for both men and women. A man imagines the day he finds the woman of his dreams and can afford to offer her a diamond ring as he asks for her hand in marriage.

A woman dreams of the day a wonderful man will ask her to get married and present her with a dazzling diamond ring. For centuries, diamonds have spiritual and emotional significance making them a perfect theme for your wedding.

Bring on the bling at your bridal shower. Give out funny novelty light up engagement rings as favors so your guests have a hint of your wedding theme. As you plan your big day, make sure all your accessories are embellished with crystals and diamonds.

Wear crystallized gowns and sparkling earrings. Sweep your hair up and tuck in jeweled hair twists. Use a crystallized ring pillow and flower girl basket to bring diamonds down the aisle.

Introduce the wedding theme to your guests with diamond place cars. Silver plated diamond napkin holders are a perfect accompaniment.

Choose centerpieces that reflect your diamond jewel wedding theme. Fill vases with flowers and water then place a water activated diamond light at the bottom of each one to create unique centerpieces.

Bring diamonds into all the other aspects of your wedding reception. During the toast, include interlocking diamond stem champagne flutes for the bride and groom. The cake cutting ceremony is not complete without using a diamond clear acrylic cake cutting set to serve each other.

Including bedazzling accents during your toast and cake cutting ceremony will make the photos and videos of these events even more memorable. When the reception is over, you can bring your flutes and cake cutting set home as keepsakes of your once in a lifetime day.

Even your guest favors will reflect your diamond jewel wedding theme.

A diamond shaped paperweight in a velvet bag is a memorable keepsake for your guests. You can also put any type of favor you choose in diamond embossed white boxes to keep with the theme of the day.

Diamond jewel wedding themes are the ideal way to bring delightful dazzle to your big day.

Purple Theme Weddings Use the Color of Royalty for a Grand Purpose

Friday 7 August 2009 @ 3:39 am

Throughout history, purple has been considered a color of royalty, befitting special occasions and events including purple theme weddings .

Kings and Queens often donned purple whenever they reviewed or accepted subjects. In more recent times, purple is the color chosen by countries to confer honor on their Heads of State or other dignitaries.

Purple still plays a major role in most backgrounds when two Heads of State meet for meetings or to sign treaties.

Purple mixes the hotness or red with the coolness of blue. The result is a customer that can be all things to all people and can merge well into any color scheme.

Even colors normally difficult to match, like pink or certain greens, mix well with purple. Purple also brings out the best in other colors, making them seem more regal or vibrant.

A purple theme wedding allows you to set the stage for elegance and class and can add a rich flavor to any decoration scheme. It also allows you to inject a sense of quiet style if you use it sparingly, such as in flower arrangements, table settings or as trim around other colors.

The butterfly favor / place cards in deep orchid purple, sets a mood that is both light and serious, airy yet exuding sincerity.

Personalized ribbons for bows on favor boxes allow you to add either a purple ribbon or purple script to your favors, giving your favor boxes a touch of class and reminding the guests of your special day. Decorative initial monogram stickers in purple allow you to personalize glasses or stationary.

Decorations also can be injected with various shades of purple, from light mauve to dark grape. Tablecloths in purple set a quiet yet elegant mood for receptions and shades of purple tulle tied with paper roses are perfect for aisle decorations and the backs of reception chairs.

White is the perfect backdrop color for a purple wedding theme, as the various hues of purple seem to come to life and leap off the white!

Purple exudes a royal, fun and sincere elegance that can set a mood for an entire day. Cocktail regular napkins done in purple enhance any setting and provide a sense of royalty to food and drinks.

Purple is one of the few colors that enhance virtually everything it touches. Clothes, decorations, favors, collections, place cards, you name it, purple adds to the splendor of the event and dresses up even the most routine article.

Purple theme weddings create a sense of royalty, elegance, and splendor as well as honor the special day without seeming pretentious. Purple enhances virtually everything and is right at home in any setting.

Wonderful Winter Wedding Ideas For The Modern Bride

Friday 7 August 2009 @ 3:38 am

Wonderful winter wedding ideas sparkle like your love and the season itself. Create a wonderland with exciting winter wedding ideas that make your ceremony and reception glitter.

Winter wedding dresses can be ivory, off-white or white. Choose from any length sleeve, ranging from sheer, long sleeves to short, puffy sleeves to sleeveless. If you wear a strapless wedding gown, put a dramatic fur wrap or colored shawl over your shoulders to stay warm. Match the shawl to your groom’s boutonniere for fantastic photos.

Avoid strappy sandals if you’re going outside. Choose a dressy boot, ballet flat or closed shoe with a lower heel instead to avoid dangerous accidents on your wedding day.

Choose a seasonal location for your wedding reception, such as a ski lodge, traditional inn, historic estate or private club. A working fireplace is a romantic bonus. If you’re sure there will be snow on the ground, have a picture window overlooking the scenery so guests can gaze out at a real winter wonderland during your reception.

There are countless winter wedding ideas for your tables. Include bold, holiday colors such as dark blue, green and red with silver and gold accents. Match your napkins and tablecloths and use napkin rings.

Include place cards with snowflakes, iridescent snowflakes scattered over the tables and tent cards to designate the table number so guests know where to sit. Choose centerpieces that are attractive and small so guests can see around them.

Serve warm, wintry foods such as squash and eggnog. Set up a hot chocolate, herbal tea and coffee station. Place a snowflake cake topper atop your tiered white wedding cake.

Winter wedding flowers include white and red roses, colored carnations and poinsettias with touches of pine, eucalyptus and berries. Create a fantasy feeling using winter wedding ideas with tulle and lights. Yards of tulle and garlands of white light are used for a snowy, illuminated atmosphere around doors, windows, railings and ceilings.

Include snow in all your wedding accessories including a sparkling bridal garter and a glittering toasting set. Give out winter wedding favors such as snow globes or tins filled with hot chocolate mix. If you have a holiday theme winter wedding, give out a silver plated friendship ornament filled with mints to each of your guests.

Bring bling and ice to your wedding with diamond and rhinestone jewelry. Have an ice sculpture set up near the entrance of your reception. Use fun winter wedding ideas to express the joy of your love and this special season.

Choosing The Best Live Wedding Band In London Does Take Some Work

Thursday 6 August 2009 @ 1:18 pm

But it will also pay off in the end as will anything else you research beforehand. If you are having a wedding in London you will need a London wedding band. A band that is actually a function band that is reliable, high quality, and has good prices. The wedding itself is already going to be on the up and up as far as price goes so if possible you want to try to save money on other things like flowers and music. This doesn’t mean to say that an affordable band for hire is going to be low quality - because it most likely won’t be — if you do your research and spend some time figuring this out.

I’ll be honest, I found some really good options for a live wedding band. However, just because they are listed up doesn’t mean they are going to bring down the house with their awe-inspiring music delectables! Or .. maybe they will. But you won’t know how good they are unless you take time to look around and find out how they are, now will you! Two main things I am going to suggest to you before you actually choose a band for hire. First off, it’s important to hear what they sound like.

But is this even possible? Well on some sites, yes, it is. One of the sites I found earlier today actually had a number of streaming melodies you should listen to in a few different genres. Some of these people sound really fantastic. Who knows, you might end up dancing right then and there - and if this happens, chances are it’s a good idea to keep them on the “great” list of people you might want to hire! Second off, I would suggest finding some sort of a review on their band. You can either find this on one of the search engines online or you can go right to their website and find reviews and testimonials!

This is going to pay off big time when you decide that the band in question is the band for you! Now you have heard them sing and play, you know they rock. You know that they get/got really great reviews, which means that you are probably going to have plenty of good things to say about them in the end, and you have checked out their website for information regarding the band itself. Who are they? How long have they been together? What kind of equipment do they use? Are they live? Pre-recorded? These are the things you need to know when choosing the right London wedding band!

Do You Need A Live Wedding Band For Hire In The London Area?

Thursday 6 August 2009 @ 1:08 pm

It doesn’t seem to matter what you are looking for nowadays, you can always find the solution online! One of the things I was asked to look for recently was a London wedding band and boy, did I have my work cut out for me! There are a lot of these so-called function band type companies for hire! They are going to obviously all offer different prices, options, music, etc. So I think your best option to narrow it down would be to figure out what kind of music you would like to have at your wedding.

The choices are absolutely endless, from Jazz and Rock to Old Standards and Swing music - you can literally have anything you want. Heck, you can even get a mixture if you so choose to! Once you figure out what kind of music you want played you can probably start checking out the various live bands available. Some of these sites are very functional they might even include a free “set” on the website so you hear what they sound like beforehand. This is cool because you get to hear them right up front and make a decision if you like their sound or not.

If you do, awesome. Check out the site some more. Visit the FAQ sections, About Us areas, song lists, etc. A lot of these bands for hire also have other music options too - so you can check that out as well. One site I found, provided a karaoke option! Who doesn’t love Karaoke at a party, it’s the absolute best! They can supply lyrics, sound system, video screens and even professional video and photography of your “famous 5 minutes” to take home! Perfect for office parties, birthday parties, corporate and fundraising events.

If you are reserving a band for your wedding or party in perhaps 6 months or a year from now, you want to be sure that the band will still be together! You will also want to ensure that they will turn up on time and dress and behave befittingly for your unique affair. Semi-professional bands come and go and the quality can be problematic. Choose a band that has been together for a while and make sure you can find some sort of a review on them either by looking on Google for their “business” or by looking on their website for reviews and testimonials.

The very last thing you want is for someone to “crash” your party! After all, let’s be honest the music is ONE of the MOST important facets to any party. And if that is ruined, well the whole mood is ruined. Do your research first and pick the band when you are really sure!

London Wedding Bands For Hire; The Party Is Just Getting Started!

Thursday 6 August 2009 @ 1:05 pm

If you live in the London area and are looking for a live wedding band - I’ve got you covered. Recently I found some really fantastic bands for hire and they are superb. Of course depending on whom you hire - you will most likely get a different functioning band with a different “genre” of music. Some of these might be classics, rock, Italian, opera, or even swing music. Who you choose completely depends on you and who you want. But if you are looking for a London wedding band, I would suggest looking online at some of the sites available.

If you want to find a good one, I would suggest looking for the following options and attributes on site; FAQ, lots of information, reviews, song list, testimonials, list of venues they have played at and obviously a contact option. On some of these sites I even found a section where there were a few recorded files of the band playing. This is really nice because you can get a good idea of what they sound like before you even decide to hire them! Here are a few other reasons you should hire a function band for the job at hand!

Provide great value for money because we take care of music for the whole evening; playing up to 3 x 50 minute live sets the band also organises music during breaks - saving you pounds on the cost of hiring a separate DJ.

Offer a stress-free experience for you. The live band is professionally managed with a seamless booking process that includes expert advice and close liaison throughout, from start to finish.

Gets them up and keeps them up - on the dance floor all night long! This live band is vastly experienced with talented live musicians and singers.

Have an excellent solution for venues with sound limiters, which avoids repeated power cuts during the live performance (not good in your wedding first dance).

Are incredibly versatile - play a fantastic variety of live music from 50s-00s - classics to present day chart hits. Songs such as; Blue Suede Shoes, Come Together, Purple Haze, Take Me To The River, Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You, Feel Like Makin’ Love and MANY more. They also have specific “genres” such as Pop, Rock, Swing, Disco, and more!

By the way you can also hire them for other occasions as well besides weddings such as birthday parties, bat/bar mitzvah or corporate functions. Or.. whatever else you can think of! They are usually willing to also do surrounding areas as well so it’s always good idea to call a company you might see and like and ask them if they would be willing to travel to your area. I know another wedding band in the states and if the “profit” is good enough - they are willing to travel anywhere. It’s best to call and make sure then to just figure “oh well” because you never know!

Antique Wedding Gowns As Good As New

Thursday 6 August 2009 @ 11:25 am

Recently, I was looking at vintage wedding gowns on the Internet. It actually amazed me the amount of websites that are now available displaying and selling antique dresses that were bought beautiful and elegant. One particular one I came across had a beautiful gathering around the bodice and the sleeve was short and very helpful but looked rather nice.

There are many new designers who will simply create a new gown and maybe use antique laces to give bad unique feel and look. Some of these can look quite beautiful, and you can now sometimes find many bridal stores stocking these. Unfortunately, I dont think you see the range available as you can find online, and I guess one of the advantages of the Internet is that you can browse across a multitude of websites very quickly. This gives you the perfect opportunity to see all types of wedding dresses from strapless to shoulder dress ones that may have nice neck features on the neckline and beautiful design.

I had a friend recently who purchased a gown from a bridal store that unfortunately went out of business. The dress was brand-new and never being used but had been tried on in the store a few times. It was a very formal dress with a button feature on the front that kind of reminded us of something from the 1940s it was very tailored and came with padded shoulders. This suited for perfect and the length of the dress from the shoulder to the hemline was about 57 inches, which was just perfect.

It was as if her it had been made to measure if it was just unbelievable. It was a very simple rounded and came with a wide shoulder strap. Because she is a very small person the waistline has to be adjusted slightly, and we have to make a slight adjustment to the sleeves but that was all we need to do, and we have a very happy bride.

We were again able to source some Victorian jewelry, it wasnt a real stuff of course but was really perfect for the style of dress that she had purchased. Accessories can be key sometimes depending on what type of wedding gown you are going to choose, and its always advisable to get a bit of advice when purchasing this. Because my friend is a very small petite size, we did not want any type of jewelry that will take away from the dress.

My friend was lucky to get a good price because the shop had closed down it was also interesting to note that the secondhand market on these is very buoyant and lots of people seem to be on the lookout for antique wedding dresses. It was quite interesting to note this, and Im sure at some stage in the future when she has finished using this dress that she will definitely be selling it to try and recoup some of the money that she has paid.

Hold A Unity Candle Ceremony After Exchanging Vows

Thursday 6 August 2009 @ 3:40 am

Unity candles for wedding ceremonies can be a wonderful way to bring a traditional wedding ceremony into the 21st century, especially for second marriages and blended families. In North America, more than 25% of all marriages are second time around - hard to believe but true! That means that couples getting married for the second time are bringing children into the marriage and want to embrace the whole family at the wedding ceremony. There is no better way to unite two families symbolically and let children know that they are a very important part of the marriage than with unity candles for your wedding.

The lighting of a candle at a wedding has long been a traditional aspect of the wedding ceremony. It went out of favor in the 1950ies and then started to come back big time with the increased frequency of blended families and second marriages.

The history of the wedding candle is fairly straightforward and simplistic. Even guests who have never seen a unity candle ceremony will quickly understand the meaning and sentiment. Placed upon a table near the wedding alter, the side tapers are for each member of the blended family, and the center candle represents the family as one.

The flame of each candle represents the love of the person holding the candle. As each person touches the flame from their individual candle to the center family candle, it symbolizes the creation of one strong, loving family. The individual taper candles are then blown out, which represent the start of a unified family life.

Beautiful pillar candle holders are ideal for a unity ceremony, your wedding reception tables and your new marital home. Choose themed pillar candle holders to match your special day or select them based on the decor of your new home together.

A unity candle ceremony is a special, optional ritual performed by the bride and groom after exchanging their vows. Two smaller votive or taper candles are used to light one large pillar candle, representing the joining of two people together as one in marriage.

The pillar candle holders used for your unity ceremony become treasured keepsakes to display in your love nest after the wedding day ends.

For contemporary brides, a stylized heart collection in white is a natural choice. The white, heart-shaped design matches any wedding and looks lovely in the marital home as a lasting memory of the moment. Another suitable choice for most weddings and homes are silver and gold pillar candle holders.

A timeless single heart unity pillar candle holder is simply beautiful in gold or silver. A double ring unity and tape holder with two wedding rings captures the very essence of your wedding day.

For couples who value convenience, a double dome design unity candle holder attaches the taper candle holders to the pillar candle holder for a streamlined look. A double dome design holder can do double duty as wedding reception centerpieces with colorful candles.

The stylish candle holder is available in a variety of finishes to match your wedding theme ranging from shiny brass to textured ivory linen to matte silver.

Add a little heart to your unity candle ceremony with suspended heart unity and taper candle holders. The tiny dangling hearts on silver plated candle holders are perfect for your special unity ceremony and make eye-catching keepsakes at your new home together.

Various pillar candles are used with unity ceremony pillar candle holders such as ivory or white for a traditional wedding, pastels for a spring wedding or festive silver and gold during the winter. Fragrant candles add scent to your unity ceremony. Select a fragrance to match the flowers in your bridal bouquet.

Romance, love and spirit are all associated with candles. Themed pillar candle holders during your unity ceremony and wedding reception are a unique way to express the joining together of two married people as one and make timeless keepsakes long after the day is over.

Treasure Hunt At Specialty Wedding Stores

Thursday 6 August 2009 @ 3:39 am

You can find truly unique treasures at a specialty wedding store to create a one-of-a-kind feeling during your big day. Because a specialty wedding store offers unusual choices, you can make your day even more memorable with exciting decorations and embellishments.

Choose a theme before you start shopping at a specialty store. You can also get ideas for your theme by perusing online specialty wedding stores. You will discover there are as many themes as there are couples getting married.

Select a theme that reflects your personal preferences. Consider your employment, favorite time of year and dreams when you choose your theme. If you enjoy the outdoors, a garden wedding or beach wedding gives you the opportunity to exchange your vows under the sun.

Military members can express their pride with a camouflage theme. If you share a favorite season, have a summer, fall, winter or spring wedding theme. Nautical nuptials are perfect for water bugs and beach bums. A classic fairytale wedding is ideal for every Cinderella bride and Prince Charming groom.

When you have a theme, you are ready to find a specialty store to buy unusual treasures to decorate your day. An online specialty wedding store is convenient because you can shop anytime, anywhere and with anyone. When you find what you want, you simply order the items and have them delivered right to your door.

Ask yourself a few questions to decide the perfect wedding theme for your special day:

- Do you have a favorite season? If you both love a certain time of year the best, plan a seasonal wedding to celebrate love during the summer, fall, winter or spring. Your favorite time of year may also be your engagement date.

- Are you both beach bums? If your favorite place to hang out is the beach, have a waterfront wedding at a restaurant, beach, exotic destination or ship for the ultimate nautical nuptials.

- Do you love flowers and sunshine? A spring garden wedding including the release of live butterflies is an unforgettable event.

- Are hoedowns and square dancing your favorite ways to spend weekends? Have a Western wedding complete with cowboy hats and a square dancing caller and watch everyone get in on the good times.

- Have you dreamed of being Cinderella on your wedding day for years? A fairytale wedding with a princess theme will bring your romantic fantasies to life.

- Do you or your husband serve the country in the military? A camouflage theme reflects your dedication and pride for your country.

- Are you happiest during the holidays? A winter wedding with snowflake accessories celebrates the joy of your love and this wonderful season.

Shopping specialty stores in person is time-consuming and unrewarding when you don’t find what you want right away. If you don’t find your dream items at one online specialty wedding store, you can simply surf over to another to get what you want.

Items to shop for include a flower girl basket, ring bearer pillow, guest book, photo frames, cake serving set, cake topper, bridal garter set, toasting flutes and favors for your guests.

Choose items that reflect the theme of your day. A ring bearer pillow and flower girl basket decorated with a starfish works well at a waterfront wedding. If you have a winter wedding, use a cake serving set and cake topper with snowflakes. When you shop at a specialty store, you can get really creative.

Finally, your friends and family will appreciate fabulous specialty keepsakes to remember your wedding day. At a specialty wedding store, you can find thoughtful, themed favors to thank your guests.
