Choosing A Location For A Weekend Break In England

Enjoying a genuine taste of England is worth seeking out. If going abroad this summer for a wild weekend break is going to stretch your pocket, it may be worth considering taking a weekend break closer to home. There are a multitude of locations across England which may well tick all your boxes.

This article looks at the main draws of some of England’s most popular areas. Depending on your location, some of these regions might provide the perfect weekend getaway.

The North East of England remains a very popular area to take a short holiday or weekend break. It has a long and beautiful coastline which is ideal for walking or simply visiting one of the many little seaside towns and resorts. Bamburgh Castle is the classic North Eastern coastal castle, steeped in history and perched on a high ground overlooking the majestic North Sea, as it has done for around a thousand years - more if you include previous fortifications. Of course there are many other castles to visit along the North Eastern coast, ideal areas for a weekend break.

The South West too, has a rich offering of locations in which to take a weekend break. Like the North East, the South West has many beaches and very attractive coastline. Its climate is the best in the United Kingdom, and it also has many well known inland locations too - such as Dartmoor and Exmoor, together with many other pretty areas typified by rolling green pastures and endless hedgerows brimming with life.

If you’re looking for somewhere to take a weekend break closer to the capital, then the South East of England has a great many landscapes, towns, villages and beaches to explore. Some popular attractions in this area include Canterbury Cathedral in Kent, or Haywain country in rural Essex - where Constable took much of his inspiration. East Anglia also has a rich maritime history, with plenty of pretty towns like Frinton to visit. With lots of hotels and inns to choose from, the South East of England is likely to provide a good night’s sleep too.

Another classic area to enjoy a weekend break is the lake District in the North West of England. Most will at least know of the beautiful Scafell Pike and surrounding hills and mountains. This area is naturally very busy, as it is within the reach of 12 million people. Still, despite the over subscription of this Lake District National Park area, it is definitely worth a weekend break. Watersports, classic English Inns, breathtaking walking routes and much more make this understandably popular.

Wherever you are in England, there is likely to be a suitably located and relaxing weekend break destination for you and your partner, or your wider family. As we reach perhaps the lowest point in the recession, combined with what looks to be a hot summer - these locations are going to be under a lot of pressure from weekend breakers. It might be worth seeking out some of the lesser known yet still impressive locations around England. A little research can lay bare some real gems, hidden from the masses - so why not start looking for that extra unique weekend break?
