How to Learn Guitar in 5 Easy Steps

It can be intimidating when you first set out to figure out how to learn guitar. Where do you start? What should you do? Here are 5 easy steps to help you on your journey to find out how to learn guitar.

How to Learn Guitar Step #1: Buy a Guitar. Most people will tell you that you don’t need to buy a guitar right away when you first decide to figure out how to learn guitar. But if you’re serious about this, and you now that you want to be doing this for some time, then you should invest in a guitar. You don’t need to spend a lot of money, but having your own guitar that you can consistently practice on and get used to (as every guitar is different) will help you learn how to play guitar.

How to Learn Guitar Step #2: Find a Good Instructor or Course. You can’t do this by yourself (well, if you could you’d be playing already because you’d be a genius). Either find yourself a good instructor in your town that you like, or find an online course or system that you can order that you can use to teach you. Which you prefer depends on your personality and how you learn best.

How to Learn Guitar Step #3: Practice. And then practice some more. You could have the best guitar and the best instructor or training system, and you will still not know how to learn guitar if you don’t practice. Practicing is that part that is really up to you and you can practice as much or as little as fits into your schedule, although most instructors recommend at least two 30-minute practice sessions a week. If you serious about how to learn guitar, then you should be doing at least double that.

How to Learn Guitar Step #4: Watch and listen to as much guitar music as you possibly can. You can learn a lot about the different guitar playing methods and styles by doing this, and when you do it enough, combined with your practicing, you’ll start to develop a style of your own. You may also find out that the music you like to listen to is different than the music you want to play.

How to Learn Guitar Step #5: Practice. I really wasn’t kidding in Step #3. I can’t stress this enough if you don’t practice, then you will never become a guitar player. You’ll just be another wannabe who couldn’t be bothered to put in the time and effort needed to be a really great guitar player. Nothing worth having ever came easy, and the same is true for guitar playing and you’ll truly get out what you put into it. And if you put your blood, sweat and tears into it (sometimes literally) then you will learn how to play the guitar.
