There is a growing alarm about mold in the home these days just in case you have not already heard about it. With all kinds of allergies on the rise, it is important to know what can cause many of them and how to prevent being exposed to the things that will. Every person is different and some have reactions to some things like nuts or pollen, while it will never bother others. One thing that can cause some type of allergic reaction or even serious illness in almost anyone is certain types of mold. Black mold is one of the most serious to find in a home because it can cause serious illnesses even to those that are not prone to any types of allergies. Mold is caused by water damage of some kind, some where.
Black mold, like many others, can begin to grow in a home when certain conditions are met for its development. Mold requires moisture, warmth, and a proper food source for originating, growing, and spreading. This requirements can be found in a home because of many different things. A leaky pipe that provides the moisture, warm weather heat and humidity or heat inside the home can provide the temperature, and many different food materials are available to it. Mold can feed and grow off of wood, certain insulation, fabrics, paper, and other things commonly found in a home. Once it begins to grow, it can give off spores that can become air born and spread to other places.
It does not necessarily require a water leak for mold to develop, although moisture of some kind needs to be present. A moist bathroom where there is frequently steam from hot showers or baths is a perfect example. Although there is not necessarily a puddle of water, there is enough moisture and other required elements for it to develop. Mold will start in places like a bathroom because it is used frequently and there might not be enough proper ventilation to get rid of the moisture fast enough to prevent it from growing. A warm, steamy kitchen where cooking is performed regularly is another. It is always important to use your exhaust fans in these rooms especially if you have them and if you do not have them you need to have them installed.
Other places that are the most prone to mold because of just moisture can be an attic, crawlspace under the home, or a basement. These places can also have standing or leaking water too that will cause it to develop. These places can sometimes have mold growing for long periods of time and it can spread far and wide easily without detection. It is important to make sure that no place in, under, or above the living quarters has any water standing, leaking, or too much moisture. It is the only way to prevent mold from invading your home.
