Keeping The Water In Your Bathroom From Causing Damage

Did you know that you can get water damage to the sides of your tub and the floor around them really easily? If you happen to be like many people that like to lie in a full tub of water, you may have this water running over the sides quite often and you can end up with water damage. You do not want this tub to fall through your floor especially if this is an older tub. The tubs of today are not made as heavy usually, but if it should fall through a water damaged floor, it will be bad just the same.

Always make sure that you keep checking on the caulking around your tub to make sure that the seal is still in good shape. If you notice that it is looking torn, worn, or missing in some places, you will to remove the old caulking and replace it with new. It must be water resistant that is used specifically for areas that get wet. Caulking is relatively easy and can usually be done by a homeowner themselves. If you had rather not attempt it yourself, you can always hire someone licensed to do it for you. It must be applied and allowed to dry correctly so no water can seep through anywhere.

Your bathroom is one of the easiest places in your home when it comes to getting water damage as this room is almost always damp and water sis always being used in one way or another. If you do not have an exhaust fan in this room it would be a good idea to have one installed. These are pretty hard to install so you might need to hire a licensed electrician to install it for you. Using an exhaust fan in the bathroom will help keep moisture from hot water to a minimum.

The exhaust fan will pull moisture out of the room so it will not collect on the walls and fixtures and cause mold or rotting. Keeping moisture out is important to protect the materials that are used in the bathroom like drywall, wallpaper, and flooring. Caulking around the tub, toilet, shower, and sinks prevents water from draining behind them and causing mold and rotting to any wood areas it can come into contact with. Even though your bathroom is wet from water a lot, you have to make sure it is always caulked and vented well to prevent damage.
