MLS Tickets - All-Stars Fall to Everton in PKs

The MLS All-Star team peppered the net during their game against Everton on Wednesday, July 29, but in the end it wasn’t enough to bring home the win. English Premier League’s Everton FC ended up on top by winning in penalty kicks 4-3. This result came even though the MLS All-Stars outshot the Everton crew 21 to six. They also had more shots on goals with seven compared to Everton’s three. What made the biggest difference was Everton’s goalkeeper, Tim Howard, who had six saves in the match and knocked out the last penalty kick to give his team the win. Howard may have had a great game, but he will have to count many of his opponents of teammates in September when he plays on the U.S. Men’s National Team against El Salvador. This was quite a game, and fans can see the stars live by getting MLS tickets online.

The game kicked off with both teams looking for blood, leading to a physical game that led to each team tallying 17 fouls apiece. Both teams worked hard to get shots off during the first half, and eventually both teams saw the fruits of their labor. The first score came a mere 12 minutes into the match when Everton’s Louis Saha grabbed the ball from the All-Star team and easily nailed a low shot for an unassisted goal. Not to be outdone, the All-Star team came back with a fury. At the 26th minute of the game, Conor Casey hit Stuart Holden, who fired the ball to Brad Davis. Davis tapped in the equalizer and made the game a deadlock at 1-1.

The second half had many nail-biting moments where both teams looked like they might get a chance at the winning goal, but to no avail. The 90th minute wound down with no team on top, sending the game into penalty kicks. The penalty kicks started with James Vaughan of Everton, who send his kick high. Landon Donovan was up next, and he nailed in the first for the All-Stars. Jo was next for Everton, but his ball was saved. Still up 1-0, Brad Davis was up, but his shot was scooped up. Everton’s Leighton Baines tied the PKs at ones with his goal. The All-Stars had Davy Arnaud try for the next PK, only to have his shot saved. Phil Neville gave Everton the lead with his penalty kick next. Will Johnson evened the score 2-2 with his follow-up penalty kicks. He started a run of goals for both teams, Everton’s Joleon Lescott and Jack Rodwell each made a PK, as did the All-Stars’ Conor Casey. The last shot of the game was by Freddie Ljungberg, but Howard has the save to give Everton the win.

One All-Star player still had a reason to celebrate soon after the match. On top of nailing his penalty kick, Landon Donovan was also named the MLS’s Player of the Month for July. He led the Los Angeles Galaxy to an undefeated run in July. This is the fourth time he has won this award.
