“You can’t concentrate on the harvest at the expense of the sowing, watering, weeding and caring required along the way.”
- Jack Hawley, “The Power of Dharmic Management”
Ever since the movie, “The Secret” has come out, there has been an explosion of articles and books on ‘The Law of Attraction,” and all its variants.
Basically, the law of attraction says that you get what you think about and focus on.
It’s true. And if you think about it for a moment, you’ll notice how it’s been true in your own life. It works equally whether you think about the good things you want or the things you want to avoid.
But just like the development of Web 2.0 as a follow-up to basic Internet applications, there are new developments in the area of the law of attraction that discuss the missing piece: namely, the role of action in helping us get what we want.
That’s why we selected the quotation above for this article.
For those of you who are longing for a dream career, for the personal fulfillment and deep satisfaction from having a dream career along with the dream income, there are several practical shifts you need to make in order to really create strong movement in the direction of your dreams.
Here are three key shifts that will guarantee you’ll create the career of your dreams:
1. Shift away from longing. Longing is nothing more than wishing with a strong, underlying element of ‘can’t have.’ The real emotional instruction you’re sending to the universe is, “I don’t really believe I can have my dream job, so don’t give it to me.”
2. Shift to a positive focus. Personal development guru Wayne Dyer, in talking about abundance, says that we have to feel and experience the vibration of abundance if we are to see it in our lives. The same is true for our dream job. We need to read about it, study people who do that type of job now, take courses in it. All these actions will put us into the energy space of feeling like we are in that job.
3. Shift from daydreaming to action. It’s wonderful to imagine what it will be like and feel like when we are in our new dream job, but that’s only half of what needs to be done in order to make getting our dream career a reality. The next half is the action-oriented half.
We need do what the quotation above suggests. We need to plant, water, weed, and care for our dreams of achieving that dream career.
Caring for its development can take many forms: Researching; exploring; interviewing others; networking; planning and strategizing.
If you make these key shifts, from longing to positive focus and from daydreaming to action, you will find that your dream career will begin to take shape before your eyes.
And when you take skillful action, you will find times when synchronous events will bring you quantum leaps in your movement. But those quantum leaps will not occur if you stay on the couch daydreaming without action.
So by all means visualize your ideal career. Make it vivid and exciting. Creative strong, positive emotion and do this every day. Now, add action to the mix and you’ll create the momentum you desire.
It’s easy to understand but not always easy to implement. Our own inertia and fear stop us from making these three shifts or at least making them consistently.
But if you can make these shifts and keep doing these things day after day, one day you’ll notice how close you are to that dream career. Just a little bit more and you’re there.
Won’t that be a glorious day?!? Are you ready to make a start?
Here’s to the realization of your wonderful dream career.
